Jim "Catfish" Hunter full, unused perfect game ticket
 

One of my personal favorites from my no-hit ticket collection is this full, unused ticket from Catfish Hunter's perfect game on May 8th, 1968. Very few people attended this game (attendance 6298- lowest ever in a perfect game), making any example of this ticket scarce. Finding a full, unused ticket was insanely difficult as I am only aware that two exist in the hobby! :eek: I found mine about 6-8 years ago in a major auction.

Scott, that Catfish Hunter perfect game ticket is sweet! Catfish was always one of my favorite players.
I've been meaning to ask you about your no hit ticket collection. Sounds like you have quite a few. Besides the obvious "very old tickets", are there any more recent tickets that you've had a hard time finding (lack of attendance, etc)? Just curious.
Also, did anyone get a chance over the 4th of July weekend to see the MLB channel and their show about perfect games. It was pretty good, but what made it real interesting, at least for me, was something I didn't realize. I'm watching as Tom Browning throws a perfect game and who catches the last out...Paul O'neil...and there he is again as both Wells and Cone throw perfect-o's. How unusual that one player would participate in 3 no hitters, let alone perfect games.

Great question! Since baseball attendance is up over the last 20-25 years there aren't many recent no-hitter and perfect game tickets that I would call scarce, but there are a few. Here are some that I believe are a challenge to find:

These are from the game (9/12/10) that likely marked the last battle between legendary managers Bobby Cox and Tony La Russa. I had four of tix signed last weekend - gave two to a friend and kept two for myself.

Notice that the seat numbers correspond to their uniform numbers: 6 (Cox) and 10 (La Russa).

"Babe Ruth" game ticket

The date, style and information printed on this gives me the impression that it is from an unidentified barnstorming exhibition game following the 1916 baseball season, FWIW. As I'm sure you are well aware, Ruth and other baseball players from the era would play in barnstorming games after the regular season ended. This was a way that players could substantially add to their yearly earnings.
BTW, Boston had just won their 2nd consecutive World Series Championship in 1916 when this game was played. Ruth was arguably the best pitcher in baseball in 1916. Babe Ruth, in his World Series debut had a 14 -inning victory in the longest and one of the most exiting World Series games ever played.
Ruth would have probably pitched in this exhibition game since he had not fully transitioned into a position player at this point in his career.
I'm sorry that I can't offer any more clues as to the specifcs of this particular game, but perhaps one of the other members can help with identifying it.

We came to the same conclusion as you, but obviously we'd love to be able to help our consignor out a bit more with some reference in a local newspaper or a similar bit of documentation. The libraries in the area we've contacted have come up empty though. We don't doubt the legitimacy of the ticket whatsoever, but it would be cool to provide our bidders with a few more details. But, again, I appreciate your comments and agree with them completely.

If you have a copy of The Year Babe Ruth Hit 104 Home Runs by Bill Jenkinson, there could be some information in it that will help you. BTW, an outstanding book that furthered my respect and support of Ruth as the greatest ever.

The author scoured every source imaginable, and referenced many barnstorming events in the book. I hope you find it in there; I gave my copy away otherwise I'd check for you.

I was at that WS game; only one I ever got to go see in person. So far. Though living in L.A. it is a pretty safe bet that I am in no danger of seeing another WS game in person any time soon :(

Here are my three favorite. While Army has been on the losing side of the Notre Dame rivalry, Ive always respected the matchup.

- The 1928 stub is the famous "Win one for the Gipper" Game. (I still feel my stub should have come back a PSA 4)
- The 1930 full is from Rockne's last season and last game against Army.
- The 1946 full is one of the first "Game of the Century" games with #1 vs #2. Army was National Champions that year, dont tell me otherwise.

The tour ticket pictures a young Eddie Mathews. The WS ticket is for game 7 of the series that sadly, for White Sox fans, did not take place. Front office guy Don Unferth had a group of these in his desk drawer.

Here's the season ticket version of the ticket from Johan Santana's 2012 no-hitter against St. Louis, the first no-no in Mets' history.

The team later offered reprints of these tickets - I believe season ticket holders got reprints of the tickets for their seats free, plan holders could buy reprints at a reduced rate, and the general public could buy them for $50 (I think) apiece. The Mets said the reprints would be exactly the same as the originals, but when I received mine I noticed the line "Season Ticket" did not appear on the reprint.

Ironically, Mets' season tickets are usually issued in a spiral-bound book, in strips of four, but in 2012 they were issued in shrinkwrapped bricks of individual tickets. Had 2012 season tickets been issued spiral-bound, it would have been easier to distinguish reprints because the originals would have had perforations on one or two sides, whereas the reprints have straight edges on all sides.

And speaking of reprints... here's a "souvenir commemorative" ticket to Roy Halladay's perfect game against the Florida Marlins, May 29, 2010. The Marlins sold tickets to the seats that went unsold for the actual game as souvenirs after the fact. Unfortunately, they charged the actual ticket price for the reprints, instead of a nominal reduced rate. So this ticket cost me $16.00 plus fees and such.

Note the A10JUN0 date in the lower left corner - this indicates the date the ticket was printed (6/10/10), proving this ticket was printed AFTER the game and thus is a "souvenir commemorative" ticket and not an actual ticket that was used, or could have been used, to attend the game. So at least it'll be easy to identify "real" tickets from these "souvenirs."

Fortunately, I knew I wasn't buying anything that would wind up being valuable - I did it for fun - but I wonder how many of these were sold after the fact, presumably to people who thought they were getting something good.

Ted Williams-Cleveland pass
 

Not quite a ticket, but this pass was my holy grail for quite some time....

1960 Indians season pass-the splendid splinter hit 29 homers in his final season with 5 of them against the Indians on their home turf. Among the 5 were Ted's #500, and #513 to pass Mel Ott who at the time stood only behind Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx.

Very happy to finally have this one in the collection!
