Big Eaters/Zeenut connection?

Posted By: Adam J. Baxter
I was reading a hobby publication from the '70's that proposed a connection between Zeenuts and several other PCL issues (E-UNC. Oakland Oaks, Western Playground and I think Big Eaters). Now I know that the Oakland Oaks set was believed to have been issued by Cardinet Candy (Makers of Texas Tommy's) Western Playground's origins are fairly well established as well. But what about Big Eaters? Has a connection between them and Collins-McCarthy, Cardinet, or another manufacturer ever been established?

Much of the evidence (there's not a whole lot) would seem to point to Collins-McCarthy:

Big Eaters are a candy issue.

Collins-McCarthy was fast becoming one of the bigger players in the confections business at the time, in the region, and they put out baseball cards.

1911 Zeenuts and Big Eaters share the closest designs/size.

Or perhaps another possibility would be that Big Eaters, 1911 Zeenuts, and D310's were all printed by one company in 1911 and sold to Pacific Coast Biscuit, Collins-McCarthy, and the owner of Big Eaters for distribution in their products?

Other then Zeenuts, I don't collect any of the other issues, but the article interested me and
I was wondering if anyone on the board had some theories or opinions about this?

Big Eaters/Zeenut connection?

It sounds like you already have information on that connection - possibly it's common knowledge among PCL card collectors.

I don't know anything about Big Eaters, but Leon has handled plenty of all the issues you mention.
