1957 Sohio Roger Maris rookie variant? Possible signature?

Hi all,

I recentlly found what I beileve to be a variant of Roger Maris's 1957 Sohio Gas card. it is from a slightly different angle as you can tell by the white shape underneath his elbow. Also the white signature is not in the bottom right of this copy while a gray one is, on the bottom left. I also think the gray signature could be a pencil autograph but am not sure. I am really intrigued and welcome any and all opinions!

Thanks!

Still looking for opinions. I'm not as familiar with older ballplayers but am starting to become more interested in guys like Maris, Paige, Mantle and Robinson.

Do you have it in hand? You should be able to tell if the auto is live or printed that way.

Not at the moment. I'd like to find out more about it before I purchase it. What I'm most curious is if it is a Sohio variant? The picture is similar but has obvious differences.

Ask the seller what kind of paper it is printed on....Sohios had some gloss on the front because of the slick paper they were printed on. Also ask what is the size of the card....Sohios were 5x7 and had white borders, the Maris shown has no borders and looks thinner. Good luck.

the cards also were originally issued in panels of three, so at least one side (the left side of maris if I remember correctly) should have a rough, perforated edge. if the shown card is a sohio, it is definitely trimmed. judging only by the scan and as someone else said a lack of gloss, I do not think that’s a 1957 sohio card.
