1989 Perez-Steele Celebration Set Autos

I've read many times that only 41 of the 44 players could have signed the 1989 Perez-Steele Celebration Set. The three that already passed away were : Lefty Gomez (2-17-89), Judy Johnson ( 6-15-1989) and Bill Terry ( 1-9-1989). First question is why does the PSA/DNA list Johnson and Terry with one signed auto ( I thought they didn't sign any - a PSA mistake ) ? Also if Johnson passed away in June of 1989 and didn't sign any , how did Jocko Conlan sign 5 and he passed away on (4-16-89). Was Johnson unable to sign before his death due to illness but Conlan still had a chance. Any comments or information is appreciated. Not sure exactly when the set was available for signing. Thanks

Johnson suffered a stroke in 1988, so that may account for him not being able to sign. Also I can't get any info on what month the cards were released, but if the Conlans are legit then it had to be prior to his April death...guessing early March with some smart TTM collectors sending them immediately through the mail?

I've reached out to Bill Daniels with your question. Other than PS Galleries, he is probably the most knowledgeable person concerning the PS issues.

Still wondering how the population report lists ( 1 auto each for Johnson and Terry), when they could not have signed, according to all reports. I guess it shouldn't surprise me that PSA made these errors.
