Posted By: brian
I recently came across an old black and white 8 x 10 photo that I am trying to find out more about.
It is of a baseball team and the jerseys say Nebraksa Indians. There are 14 players and a coach in the middle. Does anyone know anything about this team?

Posted By: jay behrens
Wonder if it's from a recent of Indian team pictures. There were a bunch of them on eBay about a year ago. They all featured baseball teams with Native Americans and the teams were all from Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma area.

Jay

I've just reached Upper Lower Class. Posted By: davidcycleback
There are a variety of early 1900s American Indian baseball team photos to be had. Many of the teams were from schools that tried to convert the students to white culutre.

Posted By: Greg
This is undoubtedly a photo of Green's Nebraska Indians, a barnstorming team from the early 20th century that was mostly - though not exclusively - composed of Native Americans.

For more information see the Nebraska Historical Society web site:
http://www.nebraskahistory.org/lib-arch/research/treasures/native_baseball.htm

Posted By: Dan Bretta
You can learn more about the Nebraska Indians team by reading "The American Indian Integration of Baseball"
by Joseph B. Oxendine. This book just came out a few months ago and is excellent

Or you can go to the original source and try and find a copy of "Fun and frolic with an Indian ball team" by Guy W. Green. This book has been reprinted a couple of times. Most recently in 1992, but it is still rather difficult to obtain.

Mastro had two cabinets of the Nebraska Indians in their last auction. They went for about $200 for the pair. There are numerous different postcards of this team that pop up on ebay quite frequently.
