Happy New Year to everyone on net54!
I just received these two October, 1964 professional portraits of Dean Chance and Bo Belinsky that were used in the Melodyland (Anaheim, CA) production of Damn Yankees. As some of you know, I grew up a die-hard Angels fan and Dean Chance was one of my early Angels favorite players. Angels rookie Bo Belinsky was famous for pitching the 1st no-hitter in Angels history on May 5th, 1962. Additionally, Belinsky was a notorious swinger dating Hollywood starlets like Mamie Van Doren, Tina Louise and marrying Playboy Playmate Jo Collins. Belinsky, described by some as a confirmed flake, had a dry acerbic East Coast sense of humor. This signed and inscribed early 1960's Angels yearbook that I own, says it all. Typical Bo... :D 1964 was a banner year for Angels All Star pitcher/ Bo Belinsky wingman Dean Chance. In 1964 Chance earned the Cy Young award, the 1st in Angels history. In 1967, Dean Chance had another banner year while pitching for the Minnesota Twins. On August 6th, 1967 Chance pitched an unofficial perfect game (5 innings) at Minnesota. 19 days later on August 25, 1967 Chance also pitched a no-hitter. BTW, Dean Chance was a high school multi-sport standout that got offered over 100 college scholarships. As a pitcher, Chance dominated in high school, pitching 18 no-hitters and winning over 50 games vs. only 1 loss. Both photo portraits were shot by Orange County professional photographer Rolland Hendrickson and were developed in his own darkroom and signed by Hendrickson. |

Bob Feller 2nd no-hitter original photo vs. NY Yankees

On April 23, 1946 Bob Feller pitched his 2nd of 3 career no-hitters.
He always said this was by far the best one that he ever pitched. The reason was obvious: He pitched it against a dominant NY Yankees team stacked with great hitting team that included 3 HOF'ers: Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey and Joe Gordon. Here is an original birds-eye photo that I just picked up of Rapid Robert pitching to Joe D. in what he viewed as his peak career moment on the mound. |

A few small pickups arrived this week.
A few wire photos (I think two are Type 3) and a '38 World Series Stub. New York Yankees vs. the St Louis Browns June 16, 1953: Browns win 3-1 over the Yanks. This was the final year of the St Louis Browns before the team moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles. St Louis Browns at Chicago White Sox: Browns lose 0-5. American League Representatives Meet: My guess is that this was at the 1954 All-Star Game which was held in Cleveland on that day (July 13, 1954). 1938 World Series Game 2: Yankees at Chicago Cubs. Lefty Gomez vs Dizzy Dean on the mound. Dizzy didn't have a great game - he gave up 3 HRs to Joe DiMaggio and Frank Crosetti. Gehrig and DiMaggio contributed 6 of 14 triples. Yankees win the game 6-3. |

Two new Bob Feller 8x10 photos to add to my player collection:
1950s Wilson Advisory Staff Photo Bob Feller 1960s Sports Illustrated Premium Photo Bob Feller I had not seen the SI photo before my purchase. This item is pretty beat up but its the first one I've seen so had to have it. Does anyone have any more information about this item? Are there other subjects? For what purpose was it produced? I am wondering if it may have been a 1960s Sports Illustrated subscription premium, or signing event premium. The inscription has a 1966 date on it, but the pic itself is Bob in a late 1940s/early 1950s uniform I think. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Seems like it's been a year or so since I posted over here. Picked this board game up today locally. circa 1910 with a Detroit Tigers theme on the front of the box. Hughie Jennings giving his yeehaw dance down at third.

Was very excited to pick up these two.
I don't think you see the H&B double dash-dot-dash very often, and this one is in beautiful shape. Although I did note that some grain separation on the back has been worked on, the end result looks fine. |

Funky Babe Ruth Companion Piece
Nothing major but kind of a cool, and inexpensive way, to collect Babe related items. Ruth endorsed Fro Joy Ice Cream for years with most famous items being those relatively hard to find black and white cards. Pictured here is a pitcher with a really nice Fro Joy engraving. Standing 6.5 inches tall and 8 inches from handle to the end of spout. It presents nicely and looks good with other Ruth items.

Smoky Joe Wood framed project

Freshly back from the framer, here is a Smoky Joe Wood project that I have been working on for quite a while.
The yellow Fenway dated win ticket is from Smoky Joe's famed 1912 season in which he won 34 games. He also had a streak in which he knocked out 16 wins in a row. Wood pitched the 2nd game in this DH on 6/29/12 and hurled a nifty 1-hitter. Thanks to net54's David Shakir for allowing me to add this Holy Grail ticket that I had been patiently looking for over the years. When I purchased this ticket a couple of years ago it provided the missing piece needed to complete the project. The blue fully-dated Boston Americans ticket is from Smoky Joe's 1909 season and was one of his early career pitched games. His opponent that day were the Ty Cobb led Detroit Tigers with Tigers pitching ace George Mullin on the mound. In spite of them losing that day, the Tigers clinched the AL pennant when their rival Philadelphia A's also lost in what had been a tight pennant race (September 30, 1909). The index card is an early example of Joe's signature in fountain pen, which is a personal collecting favorite of mine. Walter Johnson, who is credited with having one of the best fastballs in ML history, stated that at his peak nobody was as fast as Smoky Joe Wood. |

Here are three Mick pick-ups from January... 1. c.1960 Rawlings HoH, Mantle Personal Model MMP 2. LS125 Mantle model bat...an example from his early career and H&B labeling period was something that had been on my want list for a long time. 3.
