Is this any good or junk

I paid quite a bit and a board member messaged me that it’s junk. Seller said he got it from UK. I need more corroboration please. Thx! Scott

I think it’s another of those phony engraved pieces from the UK. They’ve been discussed here at some length.

Just an opinion

I am far from an expert on anything like that, but definitely some red flags:

1) No provenance
2) The listing doesn't claim it was Clarke's ring - read it carefully
3) Why silver and not gold
4) There is just almost no information - what is it supposed to be?
5) Was Clarke ever in the UK? How did the ring get there?
6) Looks like really poor quality

Like I started with - I'm no expert, but common sense wouldn't let me touch that with a 10 foot pole.

Wasn't it "Pittsburg" then also?

I'd say no good.

GrayGhost 04-29-2020 05:39 PM

David put a link above showing the same engraved ring, a slightly different color. Seller has a no return, but there is plenty of info that I have incl the original seller selling many more “supposedly old engraved original items”

ruth-gehrig 04-29-2020 05:59 PM

Disregard the seller saying "no returns". Send that junk back. Tell the seller it's getting returned. Once you can prove to ebay with tracking number that it was returned to seller you'll get your money back even if seller doesnt agree.

That piece is pure garbage

This is where common sense should prevail.

A genuine ring with that historic association and legitimate provenance would easily fetch north of 5 figures (assuming it's contemporary to the '03 Series and was made for and given directly to Clarke)
I don't know what you paid, but I'm guessing it's far less.

Common sense my friend....

Yeah I’m usually better than this and dropped the ball

Doesn’t look good

I agree with all the previous posters that it’s too good to be true. Apparently a common scam is to get vintage items like cigarette cases cups trophies etc and then engrave them with something like AL batting champion 1912 or other fantasy wording. I also agree you should send it back certified and you should get reimbursed from either PayPal or eBay.

I think as collectors we're all guilty of sometimes letting our desire for an item overshadow its legitimacy and the needed due diligence.

GrayGhost 04-30-2020 05:05 PM

I am already in touch w eBay and did a return. They said to wait and see if he gets back to me, or they step in.
