1975 Hostess Rader

So, I'm guessing the corrected version of this card ranks up there with the rarest variations from the '70's, since a poorly cut raw single just sold for $76. And a PSA 2 panel for $330+. What do you think the true population of this card is and was this a late change or one printed at a unique location that didn't send much out to be boxed?

For me, the Yaz IF card was much tougher to find than the "Rader" card. Recently, I have seen consistent pricing between the Yaz IF and Rader cards. I did find both cards embedded in lots, the Rader by luck and the Yaz IF card knowingly.

My guess would be that 10-15 copies of each the Rader and Yaz IF come up for sale a year via EBAY based on my observations....some copies are listed as the specific variation while others are unknowingly embedded in lots, or as in the Yaz card unknowingly listed as a common.

Nice cards.

I am surprised this set and the Twinkies "Black Bar" subset has not received more attention. The Twinkies black bar set consists of only 60 of the 150 subjects.

Here is my corrected panel that I picked up a couple of years ago and had graded. PSA 5 is one of 3 in this grade with nothing higher. I had been searching for one of these for years.

All or nearly all of the corrected 1975 Hostess panels and cards of Doug Rader and Burt Hooton have the factory made crease/bend at the bottom from only being available on the smaller Ho Ho's boxes, I think that is why there aren't higher graded examples.

And that makes sense as to why the Rader (and Hooten) are both as tough as they are. The Yaz is another toughie that I realize I got lucky on.

Does anyone know if the 1975 Hostess set of 150 contains the brown ink variations? Or are they only in the 1975 Twinkies set of 60?

The Twinkies set did not have the brown variation. That occurred only in the full box set.

There is a brown variation in the 1975 Twinkies set. I have attached an example of Madlock's card.

Apparently, since the set had a short time in which it was made available (April-Aug) they were experimenting with making brown backs for the 1976 set late in the cycle. Only a few were made. I am not sure if every card in the set exists in a brown back variation.

My understanding is 1975 Brown backs only on Single cards found in Twinkies and other retail packs of Hostess products.
1976 Brown back variations are on 3 card panels. They can be found in 2 configurations 3 cards stright across and 2 on top and one one bottom (Referred to as L shaped panels) Some of the L shaped Brown variations are quite scarce.
I had a Hostess store located about a mile from my House and My Dad and I would go over and work on sets on markdown days...

I have done a lot of digging regarding the initial '75 Twinkies set, I am just not familiar with the larger '75 Hostess set.

Most of the 1975 Twinkies brown backs I have seen were not released to the public but came from someone that worked for the printer and took them out of the discard pile. My understanding is the '75 Twinkies Brown backs are hand cut and don't have the oil stains common on other Twinkies. The dealer also said that the printer was experimenting with other color backs and he had a few other colors. Unfortunatley I could not acquire any.

I have perhaps 120+ '75 Twinkies and only a dozen or so brown backs. All were from the same source. I have not seen any other '75 Twinkie brown back from other sources, so they must be rare.

In my observations there are 3 panels have appear to be the hardest to obtain in the ones that were issued on boxes from 1975 -1979. They are all 1975 Hostess Panels ( 10-12 Hooton with the "o" CORRECT SPELLLING), (46-48 with Yas Infield ), and (# 88-90 Rader with "e" CORRECT SPELLING). Does anyone have any others that are as difficult as these ?
