Baseball Tintypes, Daguerreotypes, & Ambrotypes
 

Can anyone recommend any good links regarding baseball tintypes, daguerreotypes, & ambrotypes?

John- I don't know any links, but if you have a specific question post it here and I will try to help.

Barry's an expert. He's probably auctioned more baseball ambrotypes than anyone. More than me, as I've never auctioned one. But be warned, he lives in NYC so will only be able to answer questions between waves. I live on a hill on the West Coast, so I'm clear.

Baseball tintypes can be found with regularity. Baseball ambrotypes and daguerreotypes are very rare. That's a quick pop report.

Below is a brief and very introductory video I made a while ago on identifying the three. The time limit for my videos would about 6 minutes so it's quick and dirty, and the video was intended for total beginners. The quality is due to it being filmed on my Apply laptop on my dining room table.

Other very rare glass baseball photos you might someday find include the:

optaltype: looks like an ambrotype except it's on distinct milky white glass. Consider it an albino ambrotype. A friend of mine has a baseball team opaltye, the only one I've seen.

orotone, or gold-tone: looks like an ambrotype except usually much larger and the glass is gold in tone (back in gold). On vintage ones, the gold tone has sometimes discolored to more of a brown/silver. So they often aren't always yellow-gold. Usually framed, not in a case. I've seen at least two of these for sale, and there may indeed be others out there.
