Carl Hubbell with HOF

Anyone have thoughts on this Carl Hubbell baseball? His HOF inscriptions have always been difficult for me. Most of them look like they were signed in a different hand or with a different pen but they get authenticated by a TPA anyways. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have always been nervous seeing all these crazy inscriptions (like this Hubbell) that have entered the market these last 5 years. I remember collecting IP at shows in the late 80s/early 90s and inscriptions like this we’re just odd at the time, let alone players signing their full name. That said, the TPAs are always passing them.🙄

I’ve always questioned inscriptions that come from private signings. How do we know the player wrote it or the promoter wrote it (and charged the inscription price)

Matthew,
The Hubbell signature looks to be obviously genuine.
It is typical of his post-stroke signature.
In my humble opinion, the HOF inscription has the slant of a right handed signer, not a lefty like King Carl.
My best advice would be to compare it to other balls with the same inscription for comparison before sending it in for authentication with a TPA.

+1 to what Scott wrote. Slant is wrong on the inscription plus it's too strong compared to his slow post stroke sig.

Thanks everyone. This is another reason I don’t trust TPAs. One bad example gets authenticated, goes in their database as an exampler, and then all the other fakes get passed without a thought. I’d say 90% of the Hubbells with HOF inscription that are authenticated by a TPA are signed in a different hand in my humble opinion. I think I have seen only 3-4 that I feel are authentic.

Does TPA even look at the Inscriptions? They make their money identifying the signature, so when you send it in for TPA are they even looking at the inscription? So while the inscription may be bogus, maybe it is something that hasn't even been looked at or isn't being looked at.
