Lefty Gomez. Love the inscription. Sam C. Smith Jr. was president of Southern League (obviously name written in). This ball is Pacific Coast League, Leslie O'Connor President. . This and some other balls from the owner are from early 60's, all to Sam.

The Great One

Being a life long New Englander grew up a fan of all the local teams. Picked up this 1968-69 period autographed snapshot of Bobby Orr. When younger fans ask me about him all I can say is "he was Jordan before Jordan".

That's great.

I saw Orr play against the California Golden Seals at the Oakland Coliseum...

You are correct with your Jordan analogy.

I've been looking for this and the Sport magazine with Robinson and Reese on the cover for quite awhile. I actually missed out on the Sport magazine twice, but this is the first one of these I've found. Magazine and autograph are very clean. This has been a good year for me so far.

Couple more things in the mail late yesterday. Bob Borkowski of the 1955 Dodgers (that makes 12 single signed balls from the team) and I also was able to upgrade my Goose Goslin autograph thanks to Seattlerainiers on the B/S/T board (Thanks again Dave!).

Gavvy Cravath

Finally picked up a Gavvy Cravath autograph and put it on the CooperstownExpert.com website. The Deadball Era's home run king, Cravath led the league in homers six times and finished third twice.

When Cravath retired from baseball he became a judge and served Laguna Beach for 36 years. He led quite a life.

I'd put him in a group with baseball's first 30-homer/30-steal guy Ken Williams, slugger Cy Williams, and Indian Bob Johnson as guys who had intriguing careers but fall short of Cooperstown.

If you have time, check out my website. It has a page for every Hall of Famer, and pages for almost another 300 guys not in the Hall.

Stay healthy everyone!

I've been focusing on hall of famer (from all sports) autos on modern insert cards. This is one I should have gotten a long time ago, but I finally added a Kobe.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Kobe is most likely forged

This was posted on Net54 back in January. Mine does not look at all like these forgeries which are all exactly the same.

Dan,

I would not disagree with Frank on this. There was some discussion on this card on page 2 of this thread:

https://net54baseball.com/showthread...k+cards&page=2

They appear to have improved their FAKES. The four silver lines on each side are fairly the same length, though in the genuine ones the lines on the left are slightly longer at a measurable ratio which I will not put here. Also almost all of the basketball is showing. There is one clue that shows they are not perfect. The wording 'Ovation Signatures". In the genuine cards the end of the 'v' in ovation is just where the silver oval would cross the wording and the 'r' in signatures is completely inside where the oval would cross the word. These richardheads still screw that up. Those words are shifted about 1 mm to the right in the fakes.

tazdmb 07-23-2020 09:02 PM

The “K” also just looks off for this era of signature, which the loop of the “k” is at the top half of “l” in K. Every forged one I have seen gets it in the middle.

Just trying to help, not trying to stir the pot.

slidekellyslide 07-23-2020 11:10 PM

Yep...I see exactly what you guys are saying. The card I have does not match up with this card which I assume is a real one as it sold for over $6,000. I can clearly see that things are not lined up correctly. Hopefully my LCS guy will give me my money back.

Did this one sneak by Beckett? Has all the irregularities of the forgeries.

Michael B 07-23-2020 11:25 PM

Dan,

It does appear so. The silver lines on the right are longer than the ones on the left. Also the lettering is off as I mentioned. Hopefully Chris will chime in as to the observations.

slidekellyslide 07-23-2020 11:35 PM

Here is one that sold before Kobe died that has the irregularities.

Here is one from all the way back in 2007 that has the irregularities. Were they forging them 13 years ago?
