1909 Obak T212 Jansing, Sac'to

I'll try this venue. Many of you know that over the past 2-5 years I auctioned my 1910 and 1911 T212 Obaks on eBay. Now I'm down to my 15 1909s.

I've picked a fairly representative example in terms of grade, to give this forum a try.

Up for bids is a 1909 T212 Obak Heine Jansing, Sacramento. The card grades Good, with rounded corners, a couple of creases and a brown stain at top on back.

  • Bids accepted only in this thread
  • Will accept PayPal, check, m.o.

Depending how this goes, I may list the rest of my 1909 T212s here in coming weeks.

Question...

This is eventually going to become an issue for auctions on net54, so I thought I was ask the question now before it becomes an issue later.

It was stated that this auction was going to end at 10 pm PDT. Technically, that would be 10 pm sharp, with 0 seconds. Technically speaking, all bids with time stamps of 10:00 pm should be considered late and should not be accepted. Bids with time stamps up to and including 9:59 pm should be accepted.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this??? Should the people having these auctions specify the last accepted time stamp that will be considered as a bid?

Brad, you make a great point, one that's probably worthy of being a post on the main board.

When I've done a few auctions here and put a 10 p.m. end time, I was thinking that a bid with a time stamp of 10:00 would be good, but it really should not be. I agree that sellers -- myself included -- should be clearer about ending times.

guys

Am I missing something?....if it ends at 10pm EST why would we need to debate this? At 10pm.....before the clock hits 10:01 the auction is live. At 10:01 it is closed...as it ended at 10pm.....or you could say it ends at 9:59 so any bid with "10:xx" in it is over the limit. I think I am missing the something though....we can debate it ..... rarely a harm in doing that...

edited to add that since we don't have a second counter it really has to be in whole minutes...

Leon,

The point that Brad made -- as I read it -- is that if an auction is listed as ending at 10 p.m., the latest a bid could be placed is 9:59:59 (or a 9:59 time stamp on the board). Because it ends at 10, I think the question is whether a bid placed with a time stamp of 10:00 would be valid.

Think of it in eBay terms: If an auction listing has an end time of 9:15:00, you need to place your bid before the clock reaches 9:15:00. A bid placed at 9:15:01 would not be accepted, because the auction ends at 9:15.

And before someone complains that this appears to be an exercise in hair-splitting, as Brad indicated, the possiblity exists of a problem arising by more than one bid being placed at the end of an auction of a highly desirable card.

I don't think it's hair splitting at all...especially since we have already seen one of these auctions be bid on at the very last minute and won.....I think this might be a better topic for the main board. There still won't be a "rule" I don't think, but this is info everyone should really be aware of. To your exact reasoning though....to me, and I am not always in the majority, if it ends at 10....and we don't have a second clock, then the whole minute of 10:00 is still open....then at 10:01 it is closed....but that is just me....I say you might start a thread on the new board about it....I start too many :o....or we can debate it here...

edited to add that after going back and re-reading your last post I think you have a good point...as at 10 I guess it should be closed?
