That's a tough list to only pick 5 from. People who say the Football HOF is watered down are hard to understand for me.

There's a few head scratchers in there sure, but there's a lot more on the outside looking in, if you ask me.

Antonio Gates, Julius Peppers, Jahri Evans, Andre Johnson, Jared Allen should be locks IMO. I'd have very little quarrel with anybody else they'd decide to put in.

C'mon fellas, tomorrow is announcement day.

My picks are : Julius Peppers, Antonio Gates, Andre Johnson, Jared Allen and Dwight Freeney.

I think the Peppers and Gates are locks.

I would have snuck Freeney on my list to, if I could have fit him. I picked Evan’s because I figured they needed to put somebody who helped protect Drew Brees for a lot of years in there.

My guesses -

Jared Allen, DE — 2004-2015
Willie Anderson, OT — 1996-2008
Antonio Gates, TE — 2003-2018
Andre Johnson, WR — 2003-2016
Julius Peppers, DE — 2002-2016

I wanted to go Freeney also, but with Peppers as lock I think they could give a nod to a trench guy.

Rumor has it that former Bears players Steve McMichael, Julius Peppers and David Hester are going to be enshrined. Still waiting on other selections.

Congratulations to our newest football hall of famers.

Julius Peppers

Devin Hester

Dwight Freeney

Andre Johnson

Patrick Willis

Randy Gradishar

Steve McMichael

I was very surprised that Antonio Gates did not get the call. I also thought Jared Allen deserved a gold jacket. Devin Hester was the surprise pick.

Randy Gradishar should have already been in. I'm a bit bummed that they won't honor Art Powell posthumously.Thankfully, Mongo gets to know that he's a hall of fame before he leaves us.

A quality group for sure. Randy Gradishar FINALLY, should have been in
decades ago. Trent King

Antonio Gates, Rodney Harrison and Darren Woodson are surefire picks in my mind.

Canton is clearly harder to get into than Cooperstown.

D. Bergin 02-09-2024 09:40 AM

LOL, 2 out of my 5 "locks" got in.

No shade on Hester, as he's likely the best return man ever, but I wonder if they put him in because the NFL is quickly making that an obsolete part of the game and the window has basically closed for that position.

I don't remember Eric Metcalf getting much consideration for the HOF, and he was also a great all-around back, along with being one of the top 1-3 return men of his era for a lot of years. Hester doesn't have much on his resume besides returning kicks.

I'm sure Antonio Gates will get in soon, but how does someone who ranks as the following All-Time at his position, not get in immediately? 1st in TD's, 3rd in Yards, 3rd in Receptions.

Is it simply because he was overshadowed at times by Tony Gonzalez and Gronk during his career?

You may have a good point there. Hester was last on my likely list because his stats are so slanted to special teams. I would have never picked him, not because he was bad at all, just not much of a rounded player. It's similar to bringing in a kicker or a punter, a specialist in it's absolute definition. His receiver play was average.

Jared Allen losing out in favor of Dwight Freeney is a shame and a joke. Allen dominates Freeney at every meaningful stat, despite playing 30 fewer games--roughly two seasons.

sacks: Allen 136 Freeney 125.5
tackles: Allen 648 Freeney 350
solos: Allen 543 Freeney 299
TFL: Allen 171 Freeney 128
QBhits: Allen 228 Freeney 148

Ridiculous.
