March 2024 pickups

I got this from a fellow Giants collector the other day. 16 x 20 and definitely vintage. This may be an image of the 1961 ASG. The photo was pretty fragile so I quickly threw it in a frame I happened to have lying around.

That’s a nice looking photo.

Maybe I’ll see if I can replace the picture I took with one without reflections of our pendant lights… |
Very cool!

March pick-ups have been quiet. I was an underbidder that last time I saw one of these sell 11 years ago in a Heritage auction. Patience and persistence always pays off. Although not in hand I purchased this 1971 Pirates celebration banner yesterday it measures about 5’X3’. If I don’t add anything else to my collection this year all will be good!

Wow Mike, that's a great pick up! Congrats!

I dug this photo from deep in a box at a flea market in DC. I have very little knowledge of early photos. Although the photo feels/seems old, the image looks grainy to me (like it may have been copied) but I'm not sure it's a image anyone would want to make a copy of? More to the point, it appears to me a photo of Yankees in the dugout and between number 24 looks (to me) like Gehrig on the left and Ruth on the right.
Do you think it's a legit (original) photo? Do you think it's Gehrig & Ruth? What year would you guess the photo was taken? Would this be considered a "fan-taken" photo or more likely a news person or someone with credentials to be on the field? Thanks Greg The photo measures aprrox. 3 3/4 x 5 3/4" |
BuzzD complexion issues aside, those are beautiful photos. Greg, I can’t answer your questions but I see Ruth and Gehrig.

1887 Baseball Color barrier
2 Attachment(s)
When looking through my stack of 1887 sports pages pulled from the New York Clipper I found this article. It's not exciting to look at but does record a very significant event in baseball. After this July 14, 1887 meeting - no new major league baseball contracts were awarded to black players until Jackie Robinson.

Wow, that is an amazing story.
