Veterans

Out of curiosity, who on this site is a Veteran? I find it fitting that the military is steep in tradition and history and we love vintage baseball cards that are also steep in tradition and history.

I myself am an active duty U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant. I joined in 1996 and have been at war for over 10 years of my career. I have 2 tours to Iraq, one to the Horn of Africa, and one to Afghanistan. The funny thing is that I feel blessed to only have 4 combat deployments. Allot of my brothers in arms have twice that.

Thanks for sharing your Military History,

GySgt Daniel L. Alsup

Thankyou for your service gunny. Our community lost a good Marine two years ago (Cpl Xiarhos/ Helmond prov) and his memory is continually celebrated by the townies.

I did 20 years in the Air Force, 1991-2011. I flew C-9s, C-5s, and about every C-130 there is! I even got to do a stint in the Royal Air Force as an exchange pilot. Finished up on AC-130 Gunships last year...fun ride for 20 years!

Take Care,
Geno

I was a Radar Specialist and Electronics instructor from 1960 - 1964. I was on a Strategic Air Command (SAC) base in northern Maine when
the Cuban Missle crises occurred. All our B-52 bombers flew down to Florida in preparation to engage the "Rushkies"....in the event we were
going to war. This was one of Pres. John Kennedy's finest moments.

This is me in Basic training in Texas in Aug. 1960

Never served in the armed forces but i have had people say to me " Thank you for your service" many times. I am a vet (veterinarian) who is disabled from a spinal cord stroke. I have a short haircut and people hear vet and they assume military due to my disability. Anymore rather than explain everyting, i just smile and let my wife explain their error. People always assume the wrong thing.
