Agreed they have many amazing cards. Looking forward to watching it.

They have a 1953 Topps Mays PSA 8 that’s In the auction. One hasn’t sold in the auction since Dec 2019 for 32,400 in REA. The pop is only like 46 eights with only 4 higher. The SP high number Mays is arguably the hardest high number card in the set. Of all the years going back to the early 80’s I never heard of there being a 53 Topps high numbers find. It’s going to be interesting to see how much this goes for!

There is a seemingly endless amount of elite material in the market. Is a whole generation of collectors getting out?

Some of us are just selling one great item to buy a house. Not getting out.
With hopefully some left over to buy another collection piece.

Peter - Simply stated, some of the prices are so staggering, a bunch of collectors cannot resist in cashing out. However, there are an equal, if not more, number of collectors/investors looking to buy high-end cards & memorabilia since it certainly appears that today’s retail is tomorrow’s wholesale with regard to highly coveted items.

I've always really liked Memory Lane. Every year, I receive some sort of complimentary gift from them, better than any other AH. This past year, I got this nice cup from them, which I regularly use.

Things just have to keep going up right?

MattyC 08-17-2022 11:44 AM

Love that Ruth mug-- I use mine daily!

And yes the truly best and most beautiful-- and therefore sought after-- items will always only go up over the long haul.

Think of how many times over the years we've said, things can't go any higher.

If the item you are buying meets this perfect “trifecta” - iconic player; world-class eye appeal; scarcity - you can never go wrong.

Agreed. You'd have a hard time losing a dime on a rare Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, Jackie, Clemente, Mays item.

Is the folks who spend six figures on a non-iconic name because its supposedly a rare card . . . .that's the stuff that makes me scratch my head.

LOL! A “hair” short on eye appeal Ryan, but it’s unique Ty Cobb type card status certainly picks up the slack for the poor aesthetics.

Wow Can't wait to get my catalog--Auction is loaded--Love the auto cards--and my favorite, the 52 topps 2.5 Mantle--I need another one---nice exhibits and high end 1950's---Good luck to all net54 members.

oldjudge 08-17-2022 01:38 PM

Great auction! Memory Lane has become one of the elite auction destinations in no small part because of the good work of Joe T.

That PSA 2.5 1952 Topps Mantle is my favorite of the auction too. It’s centering is exceptional. If I ever get one, that is how I would itto look. I would take it over most of the 4s and 5s that I see out there.

Thx for the very kind words Jay! However, it is the hard work of our entire dedicated team that has truly paid immense dividends. Hopefully, there is something in this grand offering for everyone.

Memory Lane sent me a card along with some candy for my Birthday, it was great :-)

Memory Lane

Very knowledgeable people advising at shows and doing the card write ups. Always a fast on consignment payment too!

The card on your birthday and chocolates on Valentine’s Day are a nice personal touch that you don’t see anywhere else!

Two thumbs up

I'm also a big fan of the wooden box they give you for high end cards...but I have to admit, the card that currently resides in mine was won from a different AH. :)

Looks like another great auction. Joe T. and the entire crew do a great job of marketing and always have a great selection of items in their auctions.

I actually just looked at this card-- its at 75K  w/ 2 weeks left OMG!
FOR a PSA 2.5!!!!!! Thats a stunning beauty!!
Can we say a record price???

As quoted in decscription:
Even VG specimens have achieved record-setting prices in 2021, with several eye pleasing examples fetching $85K and $90K, and an absolutely stunning PSA 3 realizing a "record for the grade" $162K figure in March 2021.

I guess, to reference a different thread running concurrently, that signed 1963 Fleer Clemente is my white whale. It is the only card I lack for my signed '63 Fleer set. But, it is way out of my budget. I told someone that I should have bid on it right after it opened. Not because I expected to win, but just so I can say that I did.

Thankfully, Scott over at The Collector's Connection has 4 different signed 1960 and 1961 Fleer cards that I need in his current auction..
