Posted By: Richard
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help me. I'm trying to workout what type of Cassius Clay card this is and what year it was produced. it measures approx 6.5cm x 9.5cm and is a sticker card which is starting to peal away from its backing. on the back of the actual pic are the words "EL PERIODICO" printed all over the back??

Obviously your item came from a Spanish language newspaper somewhere.

I don't know, but a guess is that it was a 1992 insert with the Barcelona El Periodico, as Barcelona Spain hosted the 1992 Olympics and Cassius Clay would have been a relevant Olympic subject. That's merely speculation, as I've never before seen the item.

Posted By: Richard
Hi,

Thanks for that, also the backing that the card is stuck to, reads "De artsticamente modesto fue consierado el cartel oficial de la XVI Olimpiada"with a big picture of Olympic rings with the words MELBOURNE 22NOV - 8 DEC 1956

Posted By: D. Bergin
I can't tell from your scan. Are you sure it's Cassius Clay? At the 1956 Melbourne Olympics James Boyd won the Light Heavyweight Gold Medal for the U.S..

Never mind. I believe it's Clay. Wonder why it mentions Melbourne on the back though.
