Fourteen show promoters opted out of the May show because “it would be impossible to conduct a successful show for either our vendors or our shoppers under the current regulations,” wrote Klia Ververidis, spokesperson for the Brimfield Show Promoters Association.

The association met Monday night shortly after the Board of Selectmen authorized them to reopen for the market, which is set to run May 11 to May 16.

The show promoters that opted out include Hertans, Central Park, Stephen’s Place, Quaker Acres, Heart of the Mart, May’s, Mahogany Ridge, New England Motel, Collin Apple Barn, Dealer’s Choice, Midway, Brimfield Acres North and Shelton’s.

Sturtevant Antique Shows, which in prior years has hosted more than 200 dealers, announced Tuesday on Facebook it will opt out of the May show. The promoter’s website states the May show is canceled and that the July and September shows are still up in the air.

Many of those opting out would be considered the major fields in the town.

I guess that explains why they're currently calling it a "flee" market - at least according to the OP. Everyone seems to be fleeing from the flea market. Maybe if they just called it a "swap meet" everyone would come back.
