Cy Young artvue

The new Heartland auction has a signed artvue type 2 Cy Young plaque. Is that possible or a fake?

Wrightfan85 07-12-2021 04:54 PM

Seems likely.. Looks like Artvue type 2 started in 1956 and Cy died in November 1955.

That’s funny. Does the listing indicate a Cert?

The Mantle 11X14 is another problem. I have an extremely hard time believing that it was actually authenticated.

No chance JSA authenticated that Mantle. I emailed Bill Goodwin about it. We'll see if he removes it. Looks like maybe the Young has been taken down. I could not find it.

I got a response from Bill Goodwin last night that he would post the JSA LOA today. So far nothing. That is because there is no JSA LOA on that Mantle autograph. It is a terrible forgery just like the Cy Young that was mysteriously removed from the auction after this thread materialized.

I talked to him the other day about the Young, he pulled it. He was waiting for Spence to get back to him, he was going to let me know what he said, but I haven't heard back.

Very curious about this one as well. My understanding was this was not possible.

Good catch. Young died in November 1955 and supposedly the Type ll Artvue post cards were not produced until 1956. It is possible that production started in 1955 and some got out before Young died but there was very little if any possibility for old Cy to sign one of these. Also, that signature does not look like it was signed near the end of his life as his signature had deteriorated late in life. Funny, PSA/DNA even dates the card to 1956-1963. Guess they did not realize Young died in 1955.

I noticed the Mantle photo has now been removed from the auction.

This is very poor research on their part. Does not do much for increasing my confidence in TPAs.
