I have been a Dodger since 1957. My oldest son's middle name is Duke!
I love Dodger autographs and memorabilia

Here are two of my autographed balls (hoping they were not signed by the brow) from Los Angeles and a litltle ball with Jackie Robinson's name on it that I don't know where it came from.

Would love to see your Dodger autogtraphs.

Thanks.
That Ruth is pretty sweet as well.

I love the 1935 Rube Marquard signed 3 x 5/ album page! I considered going after this because it was so nice, but didn't pursue it because I recently picked up the vintage Marquard A/P that I posted on this thread.

I'm glad that you added this to your collection. It's a beauty- congrats!

I thought of the Marquard you picked up when I got it. It is a sharp one. I also picked up the Hubbell and Gehringer the guy had. Hard to argue with three vintage HOFers for $60 delivered.

Isn't that the truth! At that price you have to be a buyer...
The fact that these signatures pre-date the golden age of autograph collecting makes them even more special, IMHO.

Sandy

Something I have not shown before.

Mid 1980s Crackerjack Game worn Pants from Koufax. I was about 18 yrs old and had a press pass for the game a couple years in a row. I don't remember which year exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was 1985.
After the game, I was in the clubhouse and he had already given his jersey away to someone, so I asked for his pants which were hanging on the back of his chair. He said yes and signed it for me. Very nice guy.

Gee Mike. Thanks a bunch for your offer.

See, we had that whole thread about negativity in this forum and here we have Mike freely offering to come across the country to help me out. Man...What a friend!

mr2686 08-23-2012 07:23 AM

Anything for a friend, Mark! Seriously though, how is it that when I go through my stuff, I find maybe an extra Joe Cronin autograph I forgot I had, but when you look you pull out Mantles, Dimaggio's and now Koufax game used pants. Can you imagine if we were car collectors? "Oh, I forgot I had a 66 Chevelle SS in my garage" :D:D:D All kidding aside, are you going to display those at some point...maybe with some other Koufax items?

Mike,
Here's the story.
In 1979, my mother and father were in a very serious car accident. They recovered well physically and got a settlement of $25K in damages. They took the money and purchased a large lot of sports cards and memorabilia with the intent of starting a business. According to them, the point was to give me something to do that would serve to keep me out of trouble, and to spend time with my dad.
From 1979 to 1991, my father and I ran a sports memorabilia business together. We had a store in Teaneck NJ for approx 6 years and went to probably 40 shows per year. In 1992, my schooling no longer allowed me to participate in the business and we closed the store. My father had polio and was unable to do it by himself. Plus, I don't think he really wanted to do it without his best friend.
We never made much money, because we kept so much of it in stuff. When we closed the store, everything went into a newly built, waterproof garage, that was built primarily for storage.
When I moved away for school, I had no place to take my entire collection, so it stayed at their house. I go back to my mom's home periodically, to help her clean up the house and will bring some stuff back here as I have room for.
I hope that explains it. That is why I "find" so much stuff.
What I have scanned on my photobucket site is a fraction of what I have in my home, and what I have in my home is a fraction of my entire collection.
My father passed away in 1995 and all the stuff we had in the store is still sitting in the garage.
I miss my Dad. We had some great times together. Going through this stuff reminds me of him quite a bit. That's part of the reason why I still do it.
Best,
Mark

mr2686 08-23-2012 09:47 PM

Mark, you're very fortunate to have been able to spend so much time with your dad doing somthing you both loved. I'm sure the memories are worth far more than any of the "stuff" you have.

Lordstan 08-23-2012 09:50 PM

Mike,
You are absolutely right about that. We really had a blast.
Best,
Mark
