Ive been working on my signed 1933 Goudey set for 25 years now and thanks to a fellow board member and friend I finally got a Pat Malone completing the 17 card Cubs set. The Malone is trimmed but Ill take what I can get. Ironically I paid more for the Malone then I did any of the hall of famers. Sign of the times. I am just an Al Simmons away from having every Chicago player in the set signed but Im not holding my breathe on that one. Anyways here they are:

Sean,
Your set is really a thing of beauty. 25 years of searching is quite an impressive show of persistence.

Congrats!

milkit1 07-19-2012 06:39 AM

Thanks! Ironically I still have not managed to complete any other of the team sets from 33 : /

Sean,
Congrats buddy. That is a great accomplishment.

I think you should go for the Yankees next. Only 2 Gehrigs and 4 Ruths!:D

Best,
Mark

1933 Goudey autos

Signed 1933 Goudey cards are neat.
How many total do you have signed?
What player died first in the set and do you have his signed?
What one is your favorite?
Please post pictures.
Thanks,
Glen

thanks guys!
The first player to die in the set was Earl Clarke in 1938. He is pretty well impossible. i have never seen one and the fact that he was a minor leaguer makes him even more difficult. The most difficult one as far as dying the earliest that i have is Johnny Welch whom died in 1940. However I dont think he is the rarest as I have seen a few of his signed. Ironically one of the toughest ones I have died in the 60's. Heine Meine. Never seen another. My two favorite commons that I have are Earl Whitehill and Larry Benton. The Benton pose is one of my favorite poses and the Whitehill I got as a christmas present in 1989 for the unheard of sum of $50!
One of my favorite stories of my collection was picking up a Bennie Bengough off ebay from a seller that had a complete set (but only had that one signed for some reason?). A month later I picked up a George Davis and it was signed to the same kid that Bengough signed to. Was fun to get that "collection" back together.
I managed to get about 30 of the players before they died so chances are if you have a signed Goudey of a player that died after 1990, I was the one that got it. At one time I had TWENTY Willis Hudlins. I traded a LOT off to get ones I needed. I believe I am at 182 different right now. and about 300 total. oddly the Cubs are the first team set I completed though I am an Al Simmons away from completing the White Sox as well. Also, I keep nearly all my signed Goudeys in 9 pocket pages and somehow I dont have a complete signed page???
I do curently have every player that died all the way back to Dizzy Dean except one (Luke Sewell standing, he apparently didnt like signing the card as he insisted it wasnt him?)

Sean,
It's always nice to them come out and play.
I'm sure you must have the most complete set of these going.
Congrats on some great cards. You should take some nice close up scans and post them on a site like photobucket or the like.
Best,
Mark

Also, that Eppa Rixey has to be pretty rare. You don't see his auto a lot on anything.

milkit1 07-27-2012 08:04 PM

hi Mark,

I sure know it but Im so lazy lol I need to have them the way you have yours. Hey how close are you to having a 34 team set? Have you checked to see if you have completed any?

Lordstan 07-27-2012 08:08 PM

Sean,
I've never checked for team set completion.
I'll take a look and get back to you.
Mark

milkit1 07-27-2012 09:12 PM

Awesome! we can start breaking this down by team :)

Lordstan 07-27-2012 10:27 PM

OK. I just checked.
I have 4 teams sets completed.
Brooklyn Dodger,
Boston Red Sox
Cincinnati Reds
Washington Senators.
I also have all the Yanks except the 2 Gehrigs.

milkit1 07-28-2012 06:56 AM

Gehrig #61

mr2686 07-28-2012 09:11 AM

Geez Mark, considering how much the Ki Ki Cuyler just went for, I can't even imagine how much a Gehrig would cost...even if you found one.

milkit1 07-28-2012 09:18 AM

wow! AWESOME! Ironically I think a couple of the Yankees you have are rarer then Gehrig. Also I am pretty sure I got that Chapman signed and possibly the Stripp so your welcome ;)

Thats got to be the only Fritz Ostermueller in existence

milkit1 07-28-2012 09:23 AM

I just looked and these are a few teams I am very close to completing

Braves - Hargrave

Cardinals - walker
orsatti
holm
dean

Giants -
Ott
Ott
Luque

Indians-
Cissel
Lajoie (yeah right)

Browns -
Ruel

Pirates -

P Waner
Vaughn

Reds-
Grantham

Tigers -
Sorrel
Bridges

White Sox -
Simmons

so I might be able to complete one or two more teams in the next 25 years lol
