Norris Mauritson - Stole Amos Rusie, Now selling on eBay

Has anyone had any dealings with Norris Mauritson out of Olympia, Washington? This guy stole an 1887 N172 Old Judge Amos Rusie from me a number of years ago. I mailed him this card in a trade (I was supposed to get a T206 Green Back Cobb... not a good trade, I know better now). He "claimed" that he never got my card....yea right. I've been on the look out for this card for 7 years now (o.k.... so I'm a little nuts) and wouldn't you know it... it pops up on eBay for sale by... guess who? The card has a VERY unique 'fold'/printing crease along the entire bottom edge. He claims that he bought it from a dealer in San Fran 2 years ago. I had a discussion with the Cobb County Police Dept late last night and asked them to get in touch with PSA to see who submitted the card and when for grading. My guess is that it was 'not' some dealer in S.F. Be very careful if you are doing any trading or buying from Norris... I don't want to see anyone else getting BURNED!!! I did BIN on eBay just so I could get my card back but he's fighting me on the transaction and refusing to refund my money. I spoke with him yesterday and he remembers the transaction but refuses to do the right thing.

I suspect that you'll get more than a few responses to this post.

Ladder7 11-19-2010 07:17 AM

For dog's sake, return something to him. All PP needs to see is postal proof of returned item.

vintagecpa 11-19-2010 07:41 AM

I don't have anything to add other than to say that I really appreciate it when people post this type of information on this forum. I know it takes some courage to call out an individual on such a public forum, but it is a very necessary public service.

thanks.....and name please

I applaud anyone coming out and reporting a bad situation on the board. As in keeping with Net54baseball.com policy, Alexcards, you will need to put your full name on the board. I hope this all gets worked out for you. Thanks and good luck

prewarsports 11-19-2010 08:43 AM

Ahhhh, good old Norris. I have refused to deal with him since about 2005 and had some rather humerous exchanges before that time (humerous for me, he was totally serious). Eccentric guy with issues for sure. E mail me if you want.

e107collector 11-19-2010 08:52 AM

Take him down

What an unbelievable story. What are the odds that seven years later, your card shows up for sale on EBAY.

I hope you get your card back. I'm hoping you weren't going to pay him almost $5,000 to get it back, were you?

Tony

Anthony S. 11-19-2010 09:34 AM

nevermind

barrysloate 11-19-2010 11:41 AM

I've never had a problem with Norris but I've always known about his eccentricities. Sorry this situation happened.

oldjudge 11-19-2010 12:49 PM

Alexcards--When you initially mailed Norris the Rusie, did you have it insured, or did you send it certified, or did you just plop it in the mail to someone you didn't know?

skooter 11-19-2010 06:14 PM

Thanks for the warning. May Norris discover stretch marks on his wedding night.

Peter_Spaeth 11-19-2010 06:44 PM

So this Norris dude stole the card and waited SEVEN YEARS to sell it?

Fred 11-19-2010 06:51 PM

That defines patience.

Or maybe there is more to it than meets the eye?

bobbyw8469 11-19-2010 07:53 PM

Maybe he thought 7 years was long enough (some sort of statute of limitations)???

Bosox Blair 11-19-2010 10:06 PM

Maybe Norris was waiting for PSA to bring in the half-grades...;)

Cheers,
Blair

Rebuttal

Over the years we have had several of these cases aired publicly on Net 54 and almost always there ends up being an alternative viewpoint. So far, all there has been is an accusation.

If Alex can show that he shipped the Rusie in such a fashion that Norris had to have received it, that would seem to make it an open and shut case. If, on the other hand, Norris can prove that he acquired the card legitimately from a third party, that would seem to clear his name, would it not?

Until any of that happens, however, all we have is a one-sided story. I think Norris at least needs to take the opportunity to come on here and tell his side.

Leon 11-20-2010 07:10 AM

a few thoughts

I have known of Norris's eccentricities before but never have known of him to steal something. That being said I have PM'd Alexcards, for his contact info, and also asked him to put his full name in this thread. He has done neither so in keeping with board rules he is not going to be allowed to post anymore. He is actually logged in now (or in the past little while) but I have changed his status in the software, going forward. Nothing personal, same rules for everyone. For some unknown reason I don't have Alexcards' required contact info when he joined, otherwise his name would already be out here. This isn't an indictment in any way on Alexcards, it's just the rules. regards

AMERICAN_CARD 11-20-2010 11:57 AM

I applaude your coments

I agree with the last two comments. Anyone can make accusations anonymously state few if any facts. If you want to be tasken seriously, then identify yourself. It would be nice to hear both sides of this situation. Does Norris even know you've made these accustions on this board?

benchod 11-20-2010 02:07 PM

Well that's an interesting first post

rhettyeakley 11-20-2010 02:20 PM

Ameican Card, and you are?...

barrysloate 11-20-2010 02:22 PM

Are American Cards and Alexcards the same person?

He must not want to be taken seriously as he didn't follow his own advice, yet.

As anyone can see if they click on someone's id, a member's join date is readily available. American Cards joined yesterday. I do have that registration information but I am sure I won't need to post it. For the record, it has always been an overwhelming majority of board members that want folks to have to stand behind what they say (with their name when appropriate). I agree and think it helps to keep it as real as possible. ...with the occasional roach crawling in under the door :).

AMERICAN_CARD 11-20-2010 05:38 PM

Who am I?

If you check on Ebay, under american_card, you'll find I've been on there for over 9 years and have a very clean and strong feedback rating, I am Keith Hoye and have been buying and selling cards thru SCD, 10 year customer service award since 1988 and on Ebay since 1999. :p

chaddurbin 11-20-2010 05:48 PM

is cardsold the guy that claims to have *2* t206 wagners and multiple completed sets of everything? if so i don't think he'd bother wasting his energy on a common card like the rusie OJ. i mean he has 2 t206 wagners...just ask him (or don't and he'll tell you anyways)

Welcome Keith - lots of people who are skeptical by nature here, which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering how much fraud there is in the hobby.

barrysloate 11-20-2010 05:56 PM

Thanks Keith. It's always better to put your name out here, as we do get the occasional troll. Sorry I questioned if you were the other guy.

"Alex"cards

Alex emailed all of his contact info to complete his registration. It is Alex T. and if anyone needs the full last name I will supply it in an email. Thanks to everyone and I hope this gets worked out.

Norris Mauritson - Amos Rusie N172

Hey everyone... thanks for all of your replies. I stand by all that I have claimed. I was an idiot and trusted Norris because we made several trades via mail. I sent him some Old Judges and Gypsy Queens and a Parlor Base Ball game from the 1880s. Everything went well, then I send him the Rusie and he was supposed to mail me a T206 Green Back Cobb.... This is where he claims he never got the card. He claims to have bought it from a dealer in San Fran 2 years ago. I asked the Cobb County Police Dept to contact PSA to see who submitted the card for grading and when... waiting to hear back. I am 100% certain that it was not a dealer in San Fran. I'm not sure why my name was not where it was supposed to be on the regitration as some of you have pointed out, i've only been on here a few times. I registered many years ago, I will attempt to update my profile. I have no issue with sharing my information... I have absolutely nothing to hide. Alex Tymchuk, Atlatna, GA. Cell 404-218-0311. I'm only trying to keep anyone else from getting burned here... i have no agenda... I'm a small time collector on a limit budget, I was hoping to get my card back after all these years. Happy Holidays to All...including Norris.

autograf 11-23-2010 12:02 PM

Norris is the epitome of eccentric and I had some interesting dealings with him back to the alt.rec.collecting.baseball.cards days if that rings with any one out there. We had some odd trades back and forth with some unsolicited items sent back and forth but there was never anything stolen. Another vote for insured, trackable shipping........good luck to everyone in the mix.......

oldjudge 11-23-2010 12:31 PM

Tom--I have also dealt with Norris quite a few times in the past. Sure, he's not a mainstream person, but neither are most of us. I never had an issue with any purchases/trades with him. Obviously, I was not involved in this transaction and cannot speak to who is right. However, I can state that I always found Norris to be honest and trustworthy.

Leon 11-23-2010 01:09 PM

wonderful....

I too have not personally had any of this type of issue with Norris. Just a few weeks ago I did a several hundred dollar deal with him that went fine. That being said I have seen 2 other issues similar to this one being talked about....happening quite some time ago but just coming to light for me since this thread happened, and from folks I respect very much. They just don't want to go public. I would definitely say that, from what I know today, Norris has more issues than meets the eye. If this thread helps one person then that is a good thing. The lesson here is to be careful.
