I don't know the answer but I am eager to hear what others say --it is clear that it is the cartoon of Herbert Lawrence Block "Herblock" who began his editorial cartoonist career in Chicago in 1929. I think he was doing freelance work in 1930 before becoming one the great editorial cartoonists of all time. Since this was inserted in the 1930 Blue Ribbon Malt Premiums it fits the time period. Much has been written about his career so I am sure a definite answer will be forthcoming.

I think it might simply be another advertising promotion put in with them in order to help sell the product.

what happened to the Peace dollar?

Not to sidetrack the thread or anything, but I had a copy editing internship at The Washington Post in 1990 and was able to meet Mr. Block. What a nice man. He treated a 20-year-old intern with nothing but respect and kindness. I still have a signed copy of one of his editorial cartoons. Really neat guy.

Still have the Peace dollar but that is reserved for the specific year we are talking about. It's special.
