PSA review results

I sent an item to PSA thinking it was a lock for an "8", it came back a PSA "6".

Immediately returned this item to PSA for review, told them absolutely not a PSA 6, but rather a minimum PSA 8. I wrote PSA that they must have made a simple mistake and please take a second good look.

Grades posted - is now a PSA 8.

Question: Do I have to eat all grading review costs and shipping costs just to get my item regraded correctly the second time - when it was their mistake and should have been properly graded the initial time?

And what do you all think about such a drastic PSA original mis-grade (by 2 full grades - WOW!)?

edited - would rather not divulge what the specific item was.

Steve's right. This time tell them it's a minimum PSA 11!

It's only one card, and it's an imperfect world.

Another reason I stay away from PSA.

I guess I should send my Johnson to them and ask for a 9. That way it's worth more money:eek:

I am endlessly amazed by the industry everyday.

Generally they all charge for reviews

It is a cost of doing business. If you call them before your item ships you can often get a free rerview. This generally works for either PSA or SGC in my experience.

SGC - Questionable Authenricity

About a year ago I bought a 1967 Leaf Star Trek No. 1 graded SGC88. Cracked it out & sent it to PSA - Came back Questionable Authenticy. Sent it in to PSA a second time - same result.

So I send it to SGC & they also state Questionable Authenticy.

Unfortunately I didn't save the Flip.

I guess all TPG make mistakes.

Straight off the PSA website:

Each grader receives the order and they will enter the order number into the computer. Once that is done, the contents of that order will appear on the PSA grading screen. Grader #1 will then enter his grade for the card in question (and for each card within the order until the order is completed if there is more than one card) and close the order on his screen. Once that is done and after redistribution of the order, Grader #2 will do the same - not knowing the opinion of the first grader on any of the cards within that order.

If their grades match in the computer, the card would then eventually reach a 3rd grader for verification of the grade. If the opinion of the first two graders does not match, that card will be assigned to a 3rd grader whose opinion is required to break the tie so to speak. As with the first example, the card would still be assigned to another grader for verification (a 4th grader in the process) to make sure the grade is accurate and consistent with our standards.

They forgot to mention if you don't like the opinions of the original 2-3 graders and the grader assigned to verify that it is accurate and consistent with their standards you can resubmit it and overrule them by writing your own grade in on the minimum grade column.

There's an idea. You could fill out the submission form, put your own grade on it and tell them that you already paid yourself the grading fees so all you need is for them to holder it. That way you should only owe them $5 (for the reholdering service) plus the return shipping. :D
