Ken Boyer

I've been working on a signed 1963 Fleer set for at least 7 years and I have autographed copies of 63 of the 66 cards in the set. One of the three I am missing is Ken Boyer. I see a listing on eBay for a signed Ken Boyer card, but I am skeptical that it is authentic, but I am not an expert, or even a competent amateur for that matter. It doesn't anything like the to PSA authenticated autos on eBay.

Here is the listing:

And here is a photo:

I'd love to snag number 64, but I don't want to get out ahead of my skis. Any feedback?

First instinct says no. I've only had a few boyers.

Short and sweet, but still neat is his trademark.

The slant seems off, and the "ye" doesnt sit right with me

First instinct is no as well. Boyer is tough. I would avoid especially since us_caine has targeted Boyer and flooded the market with stuff.

LOL. I got burned by us_caine on Boyer. To make a short story long, I got out way ahead of my skis and bought a '63 Fleer Boyer from him. I sent it in for authentication and, of course, it failed. Luckily, he let me return it for a refund. All's well that ends well, right?

Not so much. About 6 months later the same card (it was signed with a red pen, so no mistaking it) comes up for auction again. I reported it as a fake to eBay, but they didn't take it down.

Added in edit: Thank you both for the feedback.

I checked completed listings on Worthpoint, and sure enough. Saw the same card listed and sold twice. Glad to know they are at least failing PSA now. That's kind of a relief.

Editing to say, I specifically looked to see whether the card you posted originated from him/to see if it had been sold on Ebay in the past, and stumbled upon the card you mentioned signed in red ballpoint. Small world.

I got about 50 Boyer autographs in the 70s and early 80s during spring trading when he was with the Cardinals as a coach , advisor and manager.
I say no to this one . The last name flow and character formation especially the
“yer” doesn’t look right . Not a common autograph but findable on 3x5s and for a bit of a premium on single signed baseball and 8x10s but baseball cards are truly rare and treasured by collectors .

I've actually seen one authenticated Boyer on a '63 Fleer. It was part of a lot of 65 signed cards that was auctioned off by an auction house. The lot was then auctioned of individually by Greg Morris Cards. I bid on a number of cards and won three: Lou Clinton, Vada Pinson, and Willie Mays. Not knowing the rarity, I bid up to $100 on Boyer but was outbid by a mile, with the final bid being over $160 before adding in the buyer's premium.

That was three years ago, and this is the first one I've seen since then.

You can do a PSA/DNA Quick Opinion for an eBay item for $10. I’m about 98% sure it’s no good.

I ended up doing that late last night. It came back as "Likely Not Genuine," so you all were right.

Thank you again.

I'm working the '64 Giants set autographs and am at 56/60, with Boyer being one of the last four I need. There was one that came up recently (Probstein) that was slabbed by PSA/DNA. That one went for $232.

I feel your pain.

Big Daddy, can I take a guess on the last three you need (aside from Boyer?)

Roberto Clemente
Dick Farrell
Vada Pinson

Republicaninmass 05-06-2020 12:24 PM

Dick stuart in that set as well?

Thought he might have been tough

Interestingly enough, beyond Boyer, Clemente and Farrell are the last of my needs for my signed 1963 Fleer set.

Close, still need Clemente, Farrell, Boyer and Mays. Was able to pick up a Pinson last year. Mays has been surprisingly tough as most that show up on Ebay are fake - either forged or signed by his wife. There is a bad one on there now.

Yeah, Stuart is in there. He was the last one that I picked up and he is tough to find.

JRS123490 05-06-2020 04:03 PM

Funny, Mays was actually going to be my next guess after Pinson. Stuart is tough, but have seen a few in the past couple years. Fox is also a tougher one.

Back to the well. This one looks better to me, but I am no expert. Thoughts?
