The peak of bad calls?

This is pretty bad, I'm not sure about worst of all time, but yeah, it's awful officiating.

It doesn't look like she even really had control of the ball before getting clobbered.

That’s pretty bad. Have you seen this:

How can 2 umpires miss that swing?

Hxcmilkshake 03-22-2021 02:54 PM

Ez. Its Angel Hernandez.

This is the blown call at first base, right? I would rank that as the worst.

I was a high school umpire for two seasons. In my first season I was umpiring a game with severe wind. Man on first and second. Kid hit a foul ball out of the stadium between home plate and the dugout. The wind gusted and blew the ball back into the stadium and just fair 20 feet up the first base line. It caused havoc! Defense got a double play, first base coach was irate. I SHOULD have called it an infield fly. But neither me nor the first base ump had signaled the call. We huddled and pulled out our umpire books scouring for an answer about application of the infield fly rule, but we couldn't find diddly! We let the play stand and played the rest of the game under protest.

I've seen videos of high school punts into heavy winds. One, the punter caught his own punt. The second, the punt ended up landing behind him.

Ok, that's worse than the basketball call. And doubled by both missing it.

I've always been partial to this one:

That was about the fullest baseball swing possible

That "shortest three" should have been travelling too.

No bad call will ever be worse than the Armando Gallaraga "imperfect game" call in my mind.

Agreed. What a travesty.

philliesfan 04-04-2021 07:03 AM

Agreed. What a horrible call. If MLB can completely change baseball statistics by adding the Nergro league stats, they why can't they change that blown call to give credit for that perfect game?

I am not sure about this one, but didn't the great Roberto Clemente pass away with 2,999 hits only to have MLB review tapes and change an error to a base hit giving Clemente 3,000 hits? (I agree with this decision)

Does anyone remember any other times where MLB did something like this? I am not talking changing a hit to an error the next day.

I agree. With the evidence clearly showing he was out, it should be a no brainer to reverse this call and give credit where credit is due.

MLB will never open that can of worms, MLB would be obligated to review and overturn every bad call that happened before instant replay, can't do it for one and not others.

philliesfan 04-04-2021 11:19 AM

But they did just that for Clemente.

steve B 04-07-2021 10:16 AM

They didn't make a change for Clemente, unless they knew and did it before his last season.

It was known as hit 3000 when it happened.

No, it was exactly the opposite with Clemente. He had 2999 hits when he beat out an infield hit for 3000. The scorer ruled it an error instead. Next day Clemente got his 3000th hit, a clean double.

Snapolit1 04-08-2021 06:11 PM

Non-call at end of today's Mets game was pretty dreadful.

I agree. Plus, I think it makes Gallaraga's "perfect" game that much more memorable. I don't even remember who pitched the last perfect game, but I will always remember that one.

Last night's call at the plate was awful...from every replay angle...what are they viewing? '...no definitive proof that the runner didn't tag the plate'???

On a National Telecast even!
