A little surprised no one got this going today, so I'll kick us off this month! Got a much needed HOFer for my e107 collection. He's rough, but it's a Joss!

1888 SF Hess N321 to add to the West Coast Type collection. Hard to believe these are over 130 years old, printed 23 years after the Civil War.

One of my collecting goals for 2021 is complete! This is a huge pickup for me as a Big Train collector, I just love the action photo showing his signature motion.

Finally got this in hand yesterday. An M110 had been on my wantlist for the past several years. Always expected that I would settle for a Chance or Chase, but couldn't pass this one up despite the flaws.

From the most recent Hake's. Features HOFers Pop Lloyd, Louis Santop, and Sol White (in his only "card" appearance). Other noteworthys: Dick "Cannonball" Redding, Spotswood Poles, and Dan McClellan - the first black pitcher to throw a perfect game. Only known card of this dominating team. From their 1911 inaugural season, in which they finished an astounding 108-12!

My rather trimmed V100 Heilmann recent pickup. Take that, PSA and SGC...no way are you charging me 3 times the amount it would have cost just a few days/weeks ago to have this slabbed (or rejected as too small to encapsulate)!

Thanks Chad, collector stamp on the backs brought the grade down, of course I count back stamps as a value add so it worked out well. Congrats on the Johnson Exhibit, people are starting to wake up to his value.

Holy crap Ken! Nice grab. Is this an April Fools joke? Haha! I have moved away (mostly) from multi-player cards, but this one would have been at (or near) the top of the list for me!

Congrats!

So this happened. I wasn't planning it until I saw it, and didn't dream that I could grab an early 20's Ruth card in this market, especially an E220, a personal favorite (and a card that seems very underrated to me). It grabbed my attention not only because it was an E220, but this particular card's look strongly appealed to my admittedly irrational love of miscuts (not that this card is one in E220 terms). I think that the A holder and likely trimming helped keep it (barely) in my $ range for sure, as well as the extreme oc-ness, which to me was part of the appeal. There was also a higher grade Ruth E220 in the same auction (!?!) that surely drew off some interest. I LOVE this card, I still can't believe that it's mine, and I happily accept the shambles that it's made of my card budget and collecting goals for the year. :)

Leon, appears to be a mislabeled premium by the looks of the resolution on that Gehrig.

Great pick-ups.

I've been on the sidelines as prices have gone crazy...probably been a year since I picked up anything significant. But I was able to pick this up today at the Raleigh card show. Always liked this card and thought it was undervalued. A little creased up but I'm a sucker for perfect registration, and the color is nice.

Casey2296 04-03-2021 04:46 PM

Great pick up Dan, I agree with you on the card being undervalued.

x2drich2000 04-03-2021 04:48 PM

Dan great pickup. That looks great for the condition. The creases and wrinkles wouldn't bother me at all.

Hi # In Action Signed Rookie: Pop 2 (I now own both)

Not sure what that means other than I have 60% of all signed Wilt Rookies!

Thanks guys! Nothing better than Net54 pickup thread validation :D

Justin, the Raleigh show was ok. They've got everyone packed like sardines into the Holshouser building with a difficult floor layout. I went to the last show in February and left immediately because it was so crowded and you literally had to squeeze between people (often maskless) to go down the aisles. Now I've had both my shots and it was a little less crowded, so I was able to enjoy it more. Tons of very high-dollar modern baseball and basketball slabs, and wax. A decent amount of 60s-70s vintage at various price points. Not much nice 50s stuff. Almost no prewar. One guy had half a display's worth, but his stickered prices were so silly (like $200 for a beat up E121 common) that I didn't even engage with him. Occasionally you would find something interesting hidden among the detritus, which was the case with the Cobb I picked up. I think the next show is in June and will be back in the larger building, which will be nice. In any case, it was great just to be back out at a show!
