Say What?!? Honus Wagner card on Upcoming (5/21) Pawn Stars?

First, let me make it clear that one of my television-watching guilty pleasures is The History Channel's Pawn Stars. What can I say but sorry!?
A new season is going on right now. I got up this morning to Tivo next Saturday's (May 21, 2022) episode and did a double take when the preview blurb said that a Honus Wagner card will appear on this show.
A few thoughts. Is it THE Wagner? I don't know and failed to learn more when I did some research. Maybe someone on the board has some "inside" knowledge. Second, if it is THE card, I have to conclude that someone is going for his 15 minutes of fame by bringing it to the shop. There is no way that Mr. Harrison will buy that card. But if the show is going for ratings, it hooked me. I will be watching. It's my guilty pleasure. This serves as an alert to anyone else who might be interested in Tivo'ing it now. That's 5/21/22 on The History Channel. Peace and stay healthy.

Hmm, will be interesting to see which Wagner shows up.

I remember watching the first several seasons of "Pawn Stars" before I lost my taste for it.

The longer it was on, the more it seemed to become just another reality show, with reality show stuff constantly forced in there. I'll also admit to watching several seasons of "Storage Wars" before getting fed up and bored with it.

This Wagner will be one of two things:

#1. A fake

#2. A well known copy, owned by some well known collector who wants a little bit of TV time, but has no intention of actually selling the card...at least not through these guys. One of the several high profile plants they put on the show, with no intention of it ever changing hands.

Yeah, just like the episode when Zane Burns was on Pawn Stars.

The clown known as Chumley (with his dog) will tell us the history behind the card like he already knew and then the expert will show up.
So contrived all you can do is roll your eyes.;)

Hopefully it will be that fake Wagner that those two hustlers have been repping as real for ten years.

It's a typo. The card will end up being a 1914 CJ of the great Heinie Wagner..

Expert will say $500. Dumlee will offer $30.

It was funny. First, Corey says, "this guy walks into the shop." I'm sure they already knew who he was. Then here you have Zane Burns, a knowledgeable game used collector, and they call in Jeremy from a local sports card shop to authenticate and appraise the bat. Hilarious 😆

So it was an e104-II wagner...appraised at 50K...in a sgc 1.5 holder. Rick offered 50K...thee guy who inherited it wants 500K.

Appraisal seems bonkers to me.

Wasn't it this exact one?:

What’s it worth?

mrreality68 05-22-2022 07:09 PM

Wow that is a big jump in 3 and half years

Rhotchkiss 05-22-2022 07:10 PM

I think I used to own that card- at one point I had 4 e104-IIs (I should post in the hoarding thread!). I recently sold two, both to friends. I don’t recall the price but they were 5 figures and nowhere near $50k.

E104-2 is super rare. It’s a set that celebrates the pirates and honus is THE card of the set. It’s an expensive card for sure, but I would say the card posted there is a $12k-$15k card in this market. Maybe if two people get into a bidding war it goes for a little more (could go less - it’s ugly!!)

I was watching that episode yesterday...

The guy they brought in was from CSG.

I'd have brought my whole collection into the pawn shop and have him appraise my collection... :D
