1977 Sportscaster Cards Question

Good Evening Y'all! I just purchased a huge box of 1977 Sportscaster Cards. Outside the Gretzky, Bird and Magic, what cards should I be looking for that have decent value?

Steve Prefontaine and high number series cards are valuable.

Don't think that this is a crazy recommendation, but Janet Guthrie. She is going into the NASCAR Hall of Fame this year and there is a movie in the works called Speed Girl.

Country of origin also factors in the price. The Dutch Sportscasters are the most expensive. Other rare ones are German, Belgium and Italian. FYI, be careful because PSA mislabeled alot of Sportscasters as Italian when it’s actually North American. You could tell if it’s North American by looking at the code in the back which is 03-005 while the Italian one is 833.

Thanks Eddie, I didn't know about the country of origin having an impact on rarity. Mine is from Italy - picture attached. Jim

Jim, it appears to me that the code on the back of your Guthrie card is 03-005, which makes it North American, unless I misunderstand what Eddie said.

Yes, Val, you’re correct. That’s a North American issue. It’s an understandable mistake because of the “ Printed in Italy”and PSA mislabels these alot. The Italian country code is 833 and the bio will be in Italian. People who collect Sportscasters will pay more for the Italian version because it’s tougher to find. So if you are starting to collect Sportscaster cards, it’s important to look at the country code in the back.

Great information. Thanks for the clarification. I don't collect these but that's great information for the tool box!

I hope to land the Gretzky one day.

Ali has decent value. Ray Leonard rookie. Maradona. mcEnroe rookie.

I asked this before, but that was a few years ago. Do any of the grading companies grade the unopened Sportscaster card packs? I was hoping that one of them may have started grading these since the last time I asked. I have some unopened packs that I would like to have graded.

Ben Hogan Sportscaster Cards

Hi Everyone,

This is Charlie from www.benhogangolfcards.com

Please remember me if you run across the Ben Hogan Sportscaster card from North America (03-005) 35-10 Print Run C or the Ben Hogan Sportscaster card from Belgium 34-792. My collection is calling out for both of these Ben Hogan Sportscaster cards.

Thank you.

In boxing there are two rookies: Sugar Ray Leonard and Larry Holmes.

As for the foreign variations, the way I tell is to read 'em. If they are Italian or Norwegian or whatever else, they are printed in that language.
