1971 Topps Agee - In (Real) Action

If you start this video at 4:48 you will see the play that was photographed on Agee's 1971 Topps card. How cool is that?

Interesting. If you look at the incredible action shot on Pat Corrales's 1973 Topps card, you will notice Fergie Jenkins out home plate. There is video of that play in the Canadian documentary "King of the Hill" on Jenkins and the Cubs of that era, which can be found on YouTube. What's interesting to me is that in the photo, Corrales looks like he just broke 3 ribs and will be out for the season. But in the video of the play, he's fine and gets up and walks it off like nothing happened.

Cool--thanks for sharing. Looks like it was from the game played 5/30/1970, but hard to tell if it was in the first or 6th inning, as Agee swiped 2b twice.

Nolan Ryan beats Larry Dierker 4-3. Looks like a game played today, as there were 19 combined strikeouts. Oh wait, never mind, there were also 3-4 bunts and those SBs. That would never happen now.

I had to see who the Cub #29 was that Agee threw out at home at Wrigley, it was Brock Davis who was pinch running for Bill Hands who had hit a double, which is mind boggling because Hands was one of the worst hitting pitchers in history. It was September 4, 1970, the Cubs won 7-4, Nolan Ryan started for the Mets but got a no decision.

I’m not a Mets fan, but I love the Mets 71 cards, all the wild action shots and those black borders pair well together. Definitely my favorite 70’s set. Very cool share

There were a bunch of '71 Topps cards from that particular game. Jesus Alou, Norm Miller, Joe Morgan, Agee, Bud Harrelson, Art Shamsky, Ryan, & Agee. Note the players in the backgrounds all played in that game; fans in the background are wearing batting helmets (Helmet Day at Shea).
