A few to add to the collection.

Not particularly tough, but I always loved the Diamond stars, especially the Lopez. Now, to find a signed Bengough

Nice! As I've stated before, I love collecting hall of fame postcards. Really should start a dedicated thread to them.

Sweet Wells. Very clear.

I haven't gotten it returned yet, but this morning I went down to the 30th floor of my building to drop a ball off at the Commissioner's office.

I have to say, executive assistants make the world go round and having a mutual connection with Bud Selig's EA means I don't have to carry a ball and a pen around hoping to run into him in the elevator! :D

I'll post a pic when I get it back.

EDIT:

Well, I got it back already! I timed it perfect as he was in this morning.

I wrote to Selig in 2001...I got a response within 3 days...have to say I was impressed...clearly a letter written by his secretary, but it was signed by Selig. At the time I was questioning the decision to fire umpire Al Clark(e)

Well, she's good... I just got my ball returned after only a couple hours!

theshleps 04-04-2014 03:19 PM

I have gotten alot of Selig TTM always super fast. I am hoping he doesn't have a ghost signer tho they match his IP nicely. I always wanted to sent to him when I knew he was on a trip to see if it would still come back so quickly but I kind of didn't want to know.

Hey Taz, at least it's one more off your list:)

Anxious to see your next acquisition.

Randy Johnson rookie signed

2 Attachment(s)
I'm very happy to add this 1988 rookie signed 3 x 5 of future HOF Randy Johnson to my collection of no-hit pitcher signatures.

The Big Unit is a perfect example of a player who's signature changed drastically over the years. Compare the rookie version of his signature to the signature that I got IP about 5 years ago that he applied to a ticket to his perfect game in 2004. Quite a difference!

Thanks, next 2 should be here Friday. I also put down a deposit for another toughie HOFer (for me at least) that will take a while to pay off.

Klrdds 04-09-2014 12:37 PM

As always I like to see what you get. It reminds me of when I first made the decision to start my quest.
The toughie is the one I am curious to hear about!

Just picked up this one solely for the HOF Collection (211)....

Luke 04-09-2014 07:08 PM

Are you sure that index card signature is good? I got his autograph a bunch of times between 1990 and 1992 in Seattle and it looks nothing like that. He has definitely changed his signature since that time though, so it could have been markedly different in Montreal.

I have this early RJ that was signed in '88

Ok. That's pretty conclusive. Glad I was wrong.

Hi Luke,

My Randy Johnson index card was signed in 1988 like the other poster's rookie era card, either in Montreal or in AAA. That's one of the reasons that I posted it here. His signature certainly changed dramatically from his rookie era.

Here's one additional example of an amazing signature transformation.
Below is, IMHO, future HOF Pedro Martinez's rookie era signature. Compare it to more modern examples and it's totally different. ;)

esiason14 04-09-2014 09:49 PM

That's a very cool Pedro!

dgo71 04-09-2014 11:18 PM

That's the "other" Pedro Martinez. The guy who had cups of coffee in the bigs over a few seasons, mostly with San Diego. I got Pedro "Future HOFer" Martinez's signature several times and although his "rookie" sigs are much different than the one people know today, it didn't look like that.

I didn't see any IP examples of Pedro A. Martinez, but here's his 1994 UD Collector's Choice Silver Signature variation, which almost exactly resembles the example you posted.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-COLLECT...1b#ht_22wt_902

This was the closest I could find on eBay to the rookie sig of Pedro J. Martinez:

Hi Derek,
Wow! After seeing your posted example of Pedro A. Martinez, I am 100% sure that you are correct about my 3 x 5 "Pedro" being him.

I really appreciate you pointing this out, as this is (was) part of my core collection. Time to farm Pedro A. out to the minors...

The poor guy can't catch a break- LOL! :p

And two Bill Russell's (basketball and baseball). In basketball it was tough in the 1980's when you had two George Johnson's, two Eddie Johnson's and two Charles Jones. And the signatures of each named were similar!

Don't forget the Frank Thomas's.

Basketball player Sam Jones and baseball's "Toothpick" Sad Sam Jones had similar autographs too...
