Showing off a few 1954 Dan Dees (They are Dandy!)

I got these over the weekend locally. I have a total of 16 with 12 of them already on the way to PSA. I have never seen Dan Dees this nice. The backs are clean, as well. For those that don't know, these are VERY TOUGH to get in high grade.

These are a sampling.

Blazers! How much did you pay for them?

Was there a Mantle?

frankhardy 07-20-2010 02:56 PM

No Mantle. Wouldn't that be nice to have Mantle like that!

I paid $500 for a small lot of things. About $400 of it was for 16 Dan Dees with most NM or better. There was one VG-EX (technically, but looks NM), another EX (technically, but looks NM).

The seller was strictly going by SCD book value and took a percentage. I don't think he knew much about them at all. If he did, he would have gotten them graded. The more I research these cards the more amazed and excited I get about this find. I took a little risk because I didn't know all that much about them either. I just knew that they were condition rarities, but I didn't know how rare or how much they would bring in high grade.

Judging by those pictures, I think you're going to do very well.

More than 20 years ago I put together a set of Dan-Dees. As is usually the case with collecting, it was more about the journey than the destination. The story: http://www.48tribe.com/dandeepotatochipsset.htm

I got my grades in. I sent 12 Dan Dees to PSA. I sent the 2 best ones (Bob Lemon and George Strickland at the top of this thread; along with a nice 1955 Topps Johnny Podres) on a 5 day submission. I sent the remaining 10 dan dees on the $6 vintage special. The interesting thing is that the $6 special just popped this afternoon after only 3 business days! The 5 day special has yet to pop (should pop today).

I was hoping for a 9 on either a Rosen or the Roberts, but I knew it was a long shot. Having said that, it breaks down almost exactly what I thought except I thought that the Roberts was at least an 8. Now, I'm just waiting for the 2 best ones to pop (Lemon and Strickland at the top of this thread). Hopefully, there will be 9.

Drum roll please..........

not too bad for a $400-$500 investment + grading fees. congrats.
