The Pele Collection

I have had several people ask me for higher resolution scans of my Pele signed cards, so I finally got around to creating a web site to showcase the collection.

Great site, Jason - you got on board with Pele just in time before the explosion in value!

Boy, that's one hell of a collection. Love the Ali for obvious reasons.

Incredible collection. Thanks for sharing.

The Ali is a favorite of mine as well. It was a bit of a stretch to include him on the website, but I figured I might as well take that leap.

Awesome collection, J !!!

Collecting Pele has been a welcome diversion from vintage Baseball for me.
He's such a great subject, with tremendous images and challenging cards.

Here's what i have been able to put together over the last several years.

With this super-heated market, I wish I'd kept my Pele cards. I had a Heinerle, a black and white Verlag, and three different Argentinean cards including that long one Jason shows at bottom left.

Great cards guys. Love the old soccer cards.

I sold my Alifabolaget PSA 8.5 a few years ago for $13,500 USD and it was a record sale back then. Then about a year later it sold for about ten-thousand more. Today, it’s probably worth quarter of a million. My mother wants to kill me for selling it cause’ she grew up watching him play. :(:(:(

I am glad to have picked up these but in hindsight should have done much more with Pele.

I hesitate to mention it, but I do have this rarity as spare. I have a PSA 3.5 shown above, but the color is honestly better on this one.
I'd explore letting it go if another board member needed it, even though valuing it is pretty tough.

It's one of my favorite Pele cards.

Jason I used to have that one in a substantially higher grade. I sold it to another board member. One of the worst card-selling decisions I made...

BTW, they aren't hand cut; PSA pulled that idea out their @$$.

Adam--

Absolutely -- thank you for making that point!! Not hand cut!

The classification of the card is all wrong as well, and I think you may have contributed to a great Net54 thread many years ago about this issue. If memory serves it should more accurately be called a 1968 Crack Tarjeton Autografiadas, or something like that. Please excuse any sloppiness there!

This is my other example up close -- was it yours? I believe it's still the highest graded PSA example. Still kind of like the PSA 1 better with respect to color...

Exhibitman 03-23-2021 01:14 PM

My recollection was that it was SGC slabbed and higher grade. It was nice.

Crack is the mfg, no set name on the packaging (like 1968 Topps is just Topps). This particular format of card is called "photos autografiadas" on the wrapper. I guess I would label it "1968 Crack Photos Autografiadas" if I was the god of TPG.

The book Dificiles Eran Las De Antes by Rafael Bitran and Francisco Chiappini is the go-to book on Argentinean futbol issues; that's where I got my info. It was available on Amazon years ago.

Pele 1958 Os Desportos em Todo o Mundo

I found this set of Brazilian postcards on ebay a few weeks ago and pulled the trigger without knowing anything about them. After some research, I was able to determine that they were printed in Brazil in December, 1958, to celebrate the team's World Cup victory earlier that year. These are incredibly rare, and I think given time this could be considered Pele's most desirable rookie card.

Fantastic PC! My modest recent acquisitions

I borrowed the seller's scan on this tinnie; it has a reflective gold edge that my scanner just hates with a vengeance.

Yeah it is a little...weathered?

Wow, those are some amazing cards. I'm not sure why, but that Black Pearl card has always been really attractive to me.

My own collection is much more modest.

I was lucky enough to have Pele sign these 2 for me back in 2019 when I wrote to him in Brazil. It took around 3 months for him to respond.
