Fraudulent CJ - trying to report to ebay

Hello all. This came up f/s today:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=221119631574

Obvious fake. I treid reporting to ebay and selected:

report item---listing practices----fraudulent listing activities----suspect the listing is fraudulent

Is this the best way to report? The "other" and and "inappropriate item desription" didnt lead to anything. Someone has already attempted an offer. Thieves/cons suck!

Bocabirdman 09-03-2012 03:26 PM

And the idiot parade rolls on.... Did they have their monthly meeting and decide to ramp up their bogus listings.? Cobb, Ruth, Gehrig and Shoeless Joe...What? No Wagner?:D:D:D

Re: best way to report

I'm sure your way will get the job done, but I will typically select:

Copyright and trademark -- Counterfeit item or authenticity disclaimer -- Counterfeit, fake, or replica item

yanksfan09 09-03-2012 05:36 PM

Yea I reported that one yesterday.

These also, and they're still up as well....

Me too. Though I have to say that might be the worst looking fake CJ I have ever seen. If someone paid 4k for that, they will learn a valuable and expensive lesson. If I were a betting person I would bet no one bought it....

I usually don't comment on this side, but I do read this side frequently because of the knowledge of the members here.

But what I don't understand is why you guys don't show screenshots, photos, seller Ebay ID, insert the seller's Ebay ID in the title, etc., and then let the seller know that you know exactly what they sold.

The above two auctions have been removed by Ebay.

Christopher, we DO let the sellers know. I sent the guy a message about his '33 Gehrig several days ago, got a response that I was a 'prick' (obviously, he knows me from this board :)), and that was that. Every now and then I report them to ebay, but I'm not the fake card police, and there are tons of them on ebay.

Thank you, Scott. I appreciate your reply.

But if anyone here wants to expose sellers for selling reproductions as originals, then make sure that seller receives free advertising. Insert their Ebay ID in the title description coupled with some other key words. Post a screen shot.

At least let those sellers know that knowledgeable collectors are watching them. Direct them to the thread where their auction is being exposed. Let them know that true collectors are watching.

Here's my most recent response from the seller:

Dear t206themonster,

I have no reason to be dishonest. I'm not that kind of person and I sure don't need the money. I see that you sell cards. You must be having a difficult time with your business, or you wouldn't spend so much energy trying to prove you are right. I am the wife of a avid card collector. We wouldn't cheapen this hobby for anyone or for any price. It's really irrelevant what you think about me or my husband. By the way, we make a great living and what we do for a living is not selling baseball cards.Ebay is a hobby, not an existence. Have a good day.

- christrose4me

I then let her know that she now has her own thread on this board, so maybe we will hear from her.

Hard to argue with her logic - there was no mention of God or her grandfather :(

This is really bizarre. In addition to the bogus Jackson, these scammers have apparent completed sales of three other cards, of equally astounding "bogosity" to the CJ Jackson - a 33 Goudey Ruth, 33 Goudey Gehrig, and a T206 (mis-described as T213) Cobb.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-BABE-RU...item337bc1d0d9

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-LOU-GEH...item337bc1d0d8

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TY-COBB-COUP...item337bc1d0d7

Either these sales are bogus as well, or there is an incredibly foolish, reckless, and ignorant buyer out there.

You damn straight I sent this guy an email letting him know I saw his bullshit. I did post the link...not sure how to post the screnshot or if that infringed on any laws. All good ideas, thanks.

Very nice....now the buyer won't have to follow through on a fraudulent auction.

thetruthisoutthere 09-04-2012 03:50 PM

If you look at the feedback of that seller (christrose4me) they are buying tons of contemporary autograph cards.

thetruthisoutthere 09-04-2012 04:01 PM

I remember years ago exposing a small ring of Ebay sellers who were selling forgeries of Jeter, Ichiro, Pujols, etc., in the hundreds every week. But what was really interesting was going through the feedback of those sellers.

While they were listing and selling forgeries of Jeter, Pujols, Ichiro and others, they were purchasing Jeter, Ichiro, Pujols, etc., autographs from Steiner, UDA, TriStar, Mounted Memories, etc.

In other words, they were financing their purchases of authentic autographs by selling forgeries. That practice continues today with many of today's sellers of forgeries.

 I missed that. Nothing irks me more than scammers pulling that card.
