Gold 1955 Armour Coin

Can someone explain this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/20307503673...m=203075036738

I asked the seller if he meant to list a black armour as the listing has photos of a metallic one, and he replied:

"It is black no idea why the scan looks like it does."

Reminded me of Armour Phil's Blog referencing individuals in the past that had attempted painting armours to create fake gold and silvers. Can someone tell if this is one of those?

I think he's saying the image is an optical illusion like the gold/white or black/blue dress photo, or the pair of shoes.

He should upload a picture taken with better lighting. The coin definitely looks gold coated to me.

Not sure how that is black no matter what the lighting.

Definitely ask the seller to provide you with additional unretouched photos. Tell him (not to be rude) that you would like to see at least one that makes the coin actually appear to be black.

Agreed. There should be an easy explanation. I have dealt with the seller for over 20 years and have always found him trustworthy and professional.

Thanks Swarmee, I think your absolutely correct about the optical illusion. It's funny how the lighting can do that. I was not seeing anyway that could be black until you pointed that out.

On the character references it makes sense, the seller has a ton of feedback and it's all positive. I'll suggest he take at least one new shot in better lighting.

gold armour

Jon.swears coin is black not gold
Have no idea how you can make black coin gold and the gold color is perfect for a gold armour coin

The coin sold for $102.50. My eyes tell me the coin is gold but my experience with Jon (the seller) is if he says it's black, it's black. If someone here bought it I guess we'll find out.
