Cobb Check need help

I usually always stay in the vintage cards realm but being from Michigan and a huge Tigers fan, I’ve always wanted a Cobb signature. I tried to do my due diligence, but at a local show yesterday a guy had a Cobb check from 1931 that was PSA/DNA auto only 10. I couldn’t really find anything that sales wise I could compare. I pulled up the Cobb checks on EBay and tried to set a price that way.

How much does a PSA/DNA affect the bottom price? Is it like graded cards where the drop off is significant from say a 10 to a 7? I realize that his checks are not scarce, but does the early date and not being in green pen affect the price?

I’m trying to grow and expand out my collection so I’m trying to learn.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me!

I can't answer your questions, but go to Heritage's Site and search Cobb check, they auction off about 1 week for the last 6 months from the 1930-1932 time frame.

For many people you buy the signature and not the grade. But most collectors are not experts and thus use the Grading companies as a guide.

The Higher the grade the prices can jump alot. Because the higher numbers usually mean a cleaner autograph, more crisp, smudge free etc.

That being said a Recent PSA 10 check from 1932 sold this past Dec 2020 for $2300. and one sold in Jan 2021 for $1900.
