Autumn Projects and Adventures

Anyone do anything during autumn? We have annually made a front porch display. We added more pumpkins this year. The last three years we did a harvest party for family, but last year was too hard to schedule so we are taking a break.

I'm going hiking on Friday. Going to The Enchantments in WA. 20 miles in one day because we didn't get a lottery permit to overnight.

Have fun and take it slow as that is a long ways in one day.

I am going camping tomorrow. Haven't decided for how long yet.

20 miles is the farthest by far I've ever hiked in one day. We spent the night in a Hampton Inn. After 5 hours of sleep, we left the hotel at 4:10AM, on the trail by 5AM. I summited Aasgard Pass (7800 feet in elevation) by 10:30 or 11:00. That was the second hardest ascent I've ever made. You climb 2000 feet in .75 miles. It was steep! We loitered in the alpine lakes "Enchantments" area for about 2 hours. Everyone wants to see the Tamarack/Larch in fall colors. And then I made about 2 mph for 6 hours to finish the hike by 6:30 PM. I was part of the lead group. Our goal was 13 hours on the trail to be finished before dark. However, our 16 person group broke into 3 smaller squads and the two remaining parties crawled into the trailhead over the next 90 minutes. BTW, oldest participant in our group was 74yo; youngest participant was 14yo. My driver was the last off the trail. He is a home body and a night owl. He insisted we would drive home, and I walked through my front door at 1AM.

This is the #1 hike in WA for popularity. There were literally hundreds of people on the trail. However, it is not the favorite hike I've been on. I would place it #3 - #5 possibly.

Great stuff Tim.

I am out camping. The small town close to the campground had a celebration of some kind. Several times during the day this hay ride went through the campground/lake area.
