Can anyone tell me why this went for so much? ($15k)

A slab AND a sticker!

There's many slabbed Monroe photos that sell for a fraction of this price.

I think it had to do with why she was wearing the potato sack.
No matter, she makes a potato sack look good.

Maybe 2 huge Marilyn collectors based out of Idaho wanted it.

Perhaps it's a super rare or seldom-seen image?

I can think of many superior, more alluring and iconic photos of her that you'd assume would realize more money than that one. It might take a specific Marilyn Monroe collector to explain it. :confused:

Probably a bidding war between two Potato Tycoons.

Just leave it to "Big Potato" to ruin this hobby for the rest of us. :D:D


Seriously, I think it's a great pose, and there's probably a metaphor in there somewhere, as somebody already alluded to.

Maybe not one of the "iconic" shots we're used to seeing of her, but maybe desirable because it's NOT a common shot, yet also seems like it probably should be.

Wonder if it is because of the combo of her and the designer?

Think that may be correct, have a suspicion that maybe Scott Fortner who owns this collection was bidding.
