Saying goodbye to my Orr today

Off to Goldin Auctions and will be in their February auction. Tough call to make but needs to be done. Moving things around and I'm very satisfied with the decision. I have more Orr stuff that I won't get rid of but the way the market is now I think the time is right. Good luck if anyone here is bidding on it. Thanks for looking.

I always wondered why the English version says Defence.

Hell of a card to part with.

jb67 01-21-2021 08:29 PM

Good luck with the sale. Someone is going land a great card.

Stampsfan 01-22-2021 01:39 AM

Beautiful card. Great centering, fairly recently graded... so many good qualities.

I just picked up a 6 from REA's last auction and it arrived Monday. I'll enjoy mine for awhile.

GLWS, I'll certainly be following it.

That's a real nice sports car you have for sale!

clarke442 01-22-2021 08:36 AM

WOW!

I haven't seen that card for awhile

Hopefully I can win the Lottery before February

Good Luck

Every once in a while, one sees a card one can only dream of, and this is one of those cards for me.

Good luck with your sale, Tomi. :)

The nerve of you to bring that lowly trash in here. Time to up your game.

J/k. Helluva card! Good luck.

goldenage 01-30-2021 06:24 AM

Beautiful card Tomi. I'm sure you'll be thrilled with the profit. My guess is the buyer will enjoy a nice profit in another 10 years or so also. Good luck.

shagrotn77 01-30-2021 07:22 PM

That is one beautiful card! I can only imagine what astronomical price it will bring. Any guesses?

Heritage has a 7 & 8 in their current auction....be a good test to see its worth.
The 8 is already at 42K, and it just started...27 days left.
Says estimate 75K +
I am glad to pick one up recently sgc1.5

It's going to hit 6 figures, I'd wager.

WOW ! what a beauty !!!

ronniehatesjazz 02-08-2021 09:17 PM

I'm not a hockey fan and probably only have a hand full of hockey cards but what a beauty!

Tomi 02-08-2021 09:28 PM

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I still can't understand how it didn't grade higher. Every collector and dealer I showed it to agree. Just can't justify spending thousands to review it for a higher grade and getting shut out. You can make more if it bumps higher but if it doesn't then it's no different than flushing the money down the toilet. I think it will do better then the one in Heritage right now which has a soft corner. The term buy the card and not the holder should apply to this auction. Fingers crossed.

goldenage 02-09-2021 04:09 AM

There are 8's in 10 holders and vice versa. Years ago I cracked a PSA 8 and resubmitted it and it came back a PSA 10. The money that is exchanged in the difference between a 9 and 10 can be huge, but the difference in the card can be nothing. Same with 8's and 10's sometimes.

You can check out my Orr panel on the PSA registry. I have scans of all the panels up.

forceplay sport 03-09-2021 08:29 AM

I saw the Goldin Auction ended on the Orr USA Test rookie, hoping it ended where you wanted.

Can't complain. It's a record for the grade.

FrozenInferno 03-09-2021 01:43 PM

Beautiful card. I'd love to have a Topps Test orr.

Wow, $87,330.00! That's a great haul! Makes me wonder what my lower graded PSA 6 would bring. Comparing mine to yours our scans don't look very different LOL! Main difference would be mine has worse top to bottom centering.
Jeff

Congrats on the sale. Hopefully you are happy with the final price.

Congrats. I was following your card and also the 2 sequentially numbered Heritage Orr Test card. Glad to see yours made history.

Tomi 03-10-2021 09:34 AM

I have a feeling a regular Topps Orr in a PSA 8 should hit six figures or close to it. The last one sold for $85K at Goldin. What's crazy to me is that a PSA 8 Bill Russell in the same auction went for over $300K but the Orr hasn't even broken $100K in the same grade. Definitely keeping my other Orr stuff long term.

tabasco 03-11-2021 03:51 AM

I think a sudden surge in supply in the market didn't help.
1x PSA 7 Test and 1x PSA 8 Test sold the week before in Heritage.
And then your 1x PSA 8 Test came to auction the next week.

Goldin's website did crash just before 10pm which may/may not have affected your final sell price. They did extend the auctions 1 hr and 15min to compensate.

Did Goldin charge 5% commission on the sale or were you able to get a better rate since its a hockey featured item?

Goldin didn't charge me any seller premium. I don't think the crash did anything as far as final value because there were bids that were placed after it came back online after the crash.
