T213 type 3 question

I was looking into the 1919 t213 coupon set and a few of the subjects in the set retired by the time this set was produced such as nap lajoie who retired in 1916 but still has a card with the philadelphia athletics. Is it possible that this set was earlier than 1919?

If you check out Schulte - Binghamton, he played for several teams between 1916 and 1919, but the only year that he played for Binghamton was 1919. I am too lazy to check out a lot of the other players, but the Schulte card seems to date the set at 1919.

Another anomaly is Myers - New Haven.

There doesn't seem to be a record of Myers playing for New Haven. He isn't listed with them in Baseball Reference.

In 1916, 1917, and 1918 he is not on the roster of the New Haven Murlins.

In 1919 he is not on the roster of the New Haven Weissmen.

And, in 1920 he is not on the roster of the New Haven Indians.

The Type 2 Coupons are full of these kinds of strange happenings, and it looks like Type 3's also have their cards with team designations that are difficult to figure out.

Hal Chase is in T213-3 as a member of the New York Giants, who he only played for in 1919. There are a bunch of retired players in the set who are just identified by name without a team. The makers of the set just took a bunch of images from the 350-460 series of T206 (as the makers of T213-2 had done), and put them on cards with little regard for whether the guy was still playing.

Dubuc is also listed with NY Giants, and he only played there in 1919.

Chief Meyers did play for New Haven in 1919, according to Statscrew.

Yes according to Baseball Reference he played in 84 games and batted 301 with New Haven in 1919.

American Lithographic has a number of caption mistakes in their T213-2 and T213-3. I have several of them somewhere, but it's been a while since I last looked at them.

Whatever....however, they printed the Hal Chase cards correctly. Although, Chase played for Cincinnati (1916 - 1918), and I have yet to seen a T213 card indicating Cinci.

Here's a Lajoie from Rob. One of the tribute cards in the set that does not have a team in the caption. I think Lajoie last played in 1918 for Indy.

Another card of someone who had retired as Bender last pitched in 1917 (if you don't count the 1.0 IP in 1925).

Sorry guys - I think my brain is fried. When I was doing my searches, I used the caption on the card - Myers - instead of the correct spelling of Meyers.

Sorry about that! :)

T213's

Ed Summers with Detroit depicted on his 1910 COUPON card (as are his T206 cards).

And, here is a 1914 COUPON (T213-2) card depicting Summers with the Brooklyn Tip Tops of the Federal League.

Definitely a No-No. Summers never pitched for this Brooklyn team. As his MLB career ended with Detroit in 1912.

Rudy Sommers was a pitcher for the Brooklyn Tip Tops in 1914. I'm guessing that American Lithographic mistook
Summers for Sommers ?

Germany Schaefer played for the Washington Senators (1909-1914). During the 1915 season he played for Newark in the Federal League (not Kansas City,
as his 1914 COUPON card indicates).
