1983 Topps Information Sought

2 Attachment(s)
Hi - back again, this time with 1983 Topps.

In no particular order:

1) Images needed of sheets A, B and F

2) Any winners of the World Series trips, Colecovision or the batting glove? Information/images would be great.

3) Were those collector's boxes advertised on the wrapper the same ones they'd been giving away since 1980 with Ron Cey?

4) The wrapper offer for sheets - anyone have any? These weren't Topps products were they?

5) Images of Traded set case needed

6) See the image here of the Grocery Pack 2 box case - this looks identical to the 1981 version updated with an "83" sticker - any idea if there are any actual 1983 boxes out there?

7) Was the attached card provided along with 5-card packs of Glossy Send-aways?

I'll have to see if I can find the wrapper for a sheet sold at retail.

Yes, I have no idea how many of those that were printed, but I would bet they had to throw away a truckload when Dureya closed. They seemingly could not get rid of them.

The prevailing thought I have seen is that they were returned with the giveaways. I simply do not remember personally to verify.

There were also three variations of the checklist, Uncut sheet, Collector Boxes, and penny sleeves.

I don't have them but photos are on TCDB -

Great writeup! Brings back so many memories. I still remember Frank Viola being the last card I needed for my set (age 10).
7 packs for $2.10 was a weekly allowance....:)

I don’t think many of us remember that far. I have the card and the envelope the glossy send aways came in but they weren’t together. I could have separated them years ago. I’m assuming as everyone else they came with the Glossys. No other explanation.

Very nice website. The only oddball 83 stuff i have is a wrong back with Dave Winfield on the front and someone I can't remember on the back. I also have one with the Wade Boggs rookie on the back and someone I can't remember on the front. One of my dream cards is to find the match to the Boggs WB with him on the front and the other guy on the back.

Nice writeup! A couple of suggestions/comments:
1. In 1983, racks came in three styles/packages; in leftover 1982 cardboard headers, in leftover 1982 plastic header wrappers, and in 1983 plastic header wrappers. The 1982 plastic wrappers have a yellow advertisement on the back for the "Super Sports Card Locker," along with a 1982 copyright date. The 1983 plastic wrappers are plain on the back, without the advertisement, and have a 1983 copyright date.
2. The 3 box rack case you show on your page has an "X" as part of the printed product code, which shows as 981-83X. The X indicates, as does the size of the case, that it held the longer cardboard header rack boxes. The regular 1983 plastic header rack boxes came in a smaller 3 box case, without the "X" as part of the product code.
3. On the grocery racks, the yellow wrappers are more common, but to be clear they are leftover 1982 wrappers and have a 1982 copyright date on them. The red wrappers are the actual 1983 wrappers, and have a 1983 copyright date on them.
Hope that helps.

Also, shoot me a PM with your email address. I have a photo of a 1983 grocery case with a 1983 date on it, along with photos of the 1982 grocery rack 192 count display case.
