Home safe advice?

My bank is raising the price on safety deposit boxes again so I guess it's time for a home safe. What should I be looking for? Thanks for any help.

Fire proof and waterproof gun safes work well for me. Hold plenty of cardboard boxes of cards.

The fireproof rating. If you collect plastic holders you don't want them melted into a big brick.

Least important is how hard they try to say it is to break into. Reality is ANY safe you have in your house is super easy to break into.

Most home invasions are opportunists or thugs, not safe crackers or people of even average intelligence. A big heavy safe eliminates the 99%.

If you’re getting robbed by people know safe mechanics and systems, it’s over.

Diebold cashguard is probably over kill but probably can’t get much better!

Get one large and heavy enough where someone just can’t grab a two wheel cart and walk off with it coupled with having it anchored properly to the concrete floor in your home should keep it safe from most hacks.

+1 Agree

But depending on value and/or rarity of your collection Safe Deposit Box still might be the best regardless of raising prices (or shop around for prices at other banks)

Also Consider Collection Insurance

I have three Sentry Safes...they are fireproof and easy to hide.

Never had an issue with them.

that is a good plan if they are easy to hide and readily affordable

Get a waterproof one and dig it alongside Fido!. That way no worries for a fire.
And no questions from wife, cuz she think your doing yard work.

Most safes are only fire proof for about a half hour. Nothing will survive a prolonged devastating fire (like if you live in wildfire country)but a safe with a high fire rating will buy you time. Get something that weighs a few hundred pounds or even better something you can bolt to the floor.
