1982 Cosmos Wrestling: New Discovery?

Alright, first of all, I want to say that I did do my homework before starting this thread. :) I saw that these cards were discovered by SumoMenkoMan back in 2014. He discovered all these packs, and each pack contained five cards. It was later concluded that there was six different cards in the set. I found that pretty odd. Anyhow, I was just browsing eBay last night and I came across something very interesting:

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Ji8AA...7V/s-l1600.jpg

The seller, located in Japan, is calling this a "larger than normal trading card." However, it looks like this is a vending machine display card. A pretty rare piece. And if you look at it, you'll see that there are at least nine different cards in the set. Some of these undocumented cards include the following:

- Bruiser Brody and Stan Hansen
- Mil Mascaras
- NWA Belt
- Unknown masked wrestlers

Now I can't seem to find any past sales of these cards, so I'm going to assume that they are very rare and were printed in very small quantities. The other possibility is that they weren't even printed at all!

What do you guys think?

I'm not familiar with the find you referenced, but that kind of looks like a page out of a Gong type magazine. They are all different sizes.

Is it blank backed? Thin or thicker stock?

There are two of these oversized hard stock cards.

I have pics of the other one that has Andre The Giant, Kerry Von Erich, Stan Hansen, Bob Backlund and a few others on one side and a large photo of Ric Flair on the other. The one you are showing has a large photo of Tiger Mask on the back.

It is hard to know if the other pictures that appear to look like cards actually were ever made. So far only six cards have surfaced and they did indeed come in little packs in vending machines. Years ago some guys from the CU board opened some and those were the first to ever be documented here in the US.

It seemed they were not that rare but time has told a different story.

Edit: I forgot I just bought another one recently. My first copy I got Flair to sign. Here is the link to the one I purchased.

They are shitajiki (pencil boards).

Here are images of a couple others. Not sure how many different ones there are.

Alright, let's look at the green shitajiki here. On the corner you can see Tiger Mask celebrating - now check this out:

So, out of all those wrestlers, why would only Tiger Mask have a card made and not the others? Not even Andre? Something doesn't make sense here.

What does the back of the Cosmos card look like?

This is all very interesting by the way. Anybody know if there's any boxing related of these out there?

I'm not too much into wrestling, but I find the various Wrestling and Boxing Japanese issues incredibly fascinating.

Ah thanks. So it's blank backed.

Looks like the Ric Flair in that listing is using the same image as the "Pencil Board", but has a different design.

Because that pencil board is a larger size and has a full sized image of Ric Flair on the back/front............could that be considered a "bromide"?
