The one NFL record that will never be broken

Never say never may apply here, but certainly unlikely and not this year for sure.

pokerplyr80 08-30-2019 06:20 PM

The game would have to change quite a lot for anyone to break OJ's single season rushing yards per game. Especially since most guys are lucky to get 15 carries these days.

I don't think another QB will ever win 6 super bowls.

The five emboldened words are critical for the correct answer.

Some might consider this a trick question, but would you expect less?:D

pokerplyr80 08-31-2019 11:40 AM

Ahh, Favre's games started record will absolutely not be broken this year.

No one else could break Brady's record but he could extend it to 7.

frankbmd 08-31-2019 02:49 PM

Not sure about your answer, but it isn’t the one I’m looking for.;)

frankbmd 08-31-2019 03:08 PM

The record I have have in mind will never be broken or equaled.

One very unlikely event is the only way the above statement would be incorrect.

Peter_Spaeth 08-31-2019 05:48 PM

Morten Andersen games played.

A solar-powered eugenic placekicker is out there somewhere to make those of us who remember Morton Andersen forget him.:D

I had thought Vinatieri was done last year, but he's back. He is two full seasons away from the record.

Is there any record of Ben Agajanian’s death? Who knows, he may come back.

2dueces 09-01-2019 05:53 AM

Maybe some day when the game becomes flag football someone might break Jerry Rices receptions and yards but not in my lifetime.

Still possible though. The record I’m looking for is impossible.

calvindog 09-01-2019 12:46 PM

The Giants’ 6 preseason wins in one season?

Peter_Spaeth 09-01-2019 01:00 PM

Most minutes played in a game, Bednarik 58.

barrysloate 09-01-2019 01:55 PM

Redskins 72-41 win over Giants?...I actually watched that game.

Just read about it. Oddly only 3 TD passes that day for Sonny. And the Redskins kicked a FG up 69-41. LOL.

As I recall Redskins had 10 touchdowns and Giants had 6. The 10, and the 16 total, are still records, as well as the 113 total points. Those have held up for 53 years.

frankbmd 09-01-2019 03:42 PM

Interesting posts, but the sought after answer remains elusive.

Peter_Spaeth 09-01-2019 04:59 PM

Whoever holds the record for longest field goal with the goal posts at the goal line, or most times running into the goal posts.

I’d be interested the league leader of goal posts dented.

Keep trying.

barrysloate 09-01-2019 05:14 PM

I think it has to do with a rule that has been changed which would make it impossible for anyone to ever duplicate it. Am I warm?

barrysloate 09-01-2019 05:15 PM

Somebody once had a 109 yard runback for a touchdown. I suppose that is unbreakable since 110 would be impossible.

Whatever it is, the answer is going to be annoying as hell.

Not annoyed, just why didn’t I think of that?

Yea, I thought of that, the 99 yard run or pass, and I believe there was once a 98 net yard punt that went from a 1 yard line to the other. But these could all be equaled.

Don't even bother lol. It will be something totally obscure and groan-eliciting.

pokerplyr80 09-01-2019 06:15 PM

Maybe a single game or season attendance record? Was there an NFL game played at a stadium that exceeds current capacities?

barrysloate 09-02-2019 11:47 AM

Is Frank going to give us the answer? I think we've run out of ideas.

dgo71 09-02-2019 12:04 PM

Shula's head coaching win total?

G1911 09-02-2019 12:17 PM

As we get and closer and closer to making tackling the Quarterback at all a penalty - Derrick Thomas' 7 sacks in a game?

The Buccaneers losing 26 straight games?

Otto Graham's 10 championship appearances in 10 straight seasons?

I agree. I'm out.

Jeff's answer actually makes the most sense. Especially if they're going to cut the preseason down to 2 and expand to a 17 or 18 game regular season.

frankbmd 09-02-2019 02:37 PM

I still think this is a very fair question and If unanswered by Thursday, I will provide my answer during halftime of the Packer-Bear game that day.
If you would like some vague hints before the reveal, let me know.

calvindog 09-02-2019 04:24 PM

Thursday! That’s like in a month!

The 98 net yards on a punt actually can never be broken.

The 98 yard punt can be equaled. Next Thursday's halftime is 75 hours away.

Xanax available upon request.:D

Most kickoffs from the 40 that went into the end zone.

You're on to something there. It has to be a record attached to a rule change. I think Peter wins.

Can you document the winning kicker or team in this category? I cannot, so this would be a quasi-record of an ethereal realm.

It doesn't matter who did it, because if they now kick from the 35, nobody can possibly break the old record. Who the old record holder is is immaterial.

Barry, you are the last person I would expect to be a proponent of an ethereal realm.

I’m sure that at some point someone tripped on the 45 yard line. Now that’s a record. Immaterial record holders hold immaterial records.

I guarantee that the record I am seeking will be known by 99% of the forum.

If giving Peter credit for kicking a football into the end zone from the 40 yard line
Floats your boat, fine. It doesn’t float mine.

Peter_Spaeth 09-02-2019 06:32 PM

Is the record held by a player, a team, or neither?

barrysloate 09-02-2019 06:35 PM

It floats it a little bit.

pokerplyr80 09-02-2019 06:36 PM

Most 20 yard extra points in a season. Current record holder Morton Anderson?

No chance 99 percent of the forum knows that.

Most drop kicked field goals this century?

Going undefeated and winning the super bowl with only 17 total wins?

Bingo Jesse!

Now I would like the 1% of the forum who didn’t know this to fess up.:D

B the way it was the Miami Dolphins in 1972.

pokerplyr80 09-02-2019 07:46 PM

I was expecting something much more obscure as Peter mentioned until the 99% comment.

Although I suppose it could be equaled if either a strike or lockout lasted exactly two weeks, or a hurricane Katrina type event caused 2 games to be missed for a team or teams and never made up. Possibly due to 14 wins being enough to clinch a 1 seed.
