Help with ID/Info on Walter Berger Bat

4 Attachment(s)
I bought this yesterday at an antique shop for $20 bucks. Any wooden bat has got to be worth that, right?

You can barely make out where it is stamped "Walter Berger Model..." on the barrel and "34" on the bottom of the knob.

It looks to be heavily used. Lots of dings on the bat and dirt ground in the end from standing in dirt.

My guess is that this is a commercial bat, sold to the public, by Louisville Slugger, and dates from the 1930s-1940s? Wally Berger was a slugger for the Boston Braves in the 30s-40s (I'm a Braves fan).

Any help identifying and additional information would be appreciated. Thanks!

That looks like an early 30s Spalding bat.

Thanks! I know nothing about baseball memorabilia- including bats. Is there a page on this forum or web site I can go to to learn more?

I'm surprised by the lack of help or responses to my post. Am I in the wrong forum? Or ask the wrong question?

to be honest, it is a very low end store model bat and has little or no interest amongst collectors

Kind of agree. It's a $20 store model bat. It's kind of like the member that was trying to sell a 1997 Florida Marlins used plastic beer cup and kept bumping it every couple of days. Just not much interest..... :D

Thanks! Again, I know nothing of baseball memorabilia but picked up this bat for $20 after googling Wally Bergman and finding out he played for the Braves (I'm a huge Braves fan). Good to know I won't be funding my retirement with this bat - best to hang on to my day job! ;)

Hang it up. Admire it. Doesn't have to be an expensive item.

Wally Berger had a pretty good career. One of the best hitters ever to play for the Boston Braves. In 1935, he had a monster season for one of the weakest teams ever.
