Clean sweeps

What did anyone think about the prices, especially vintage 50s such as Mays 53 PSA 4, Aaron 54 PSA 5 and Stargell rookie? Prices high low as expected?

The prices look low on the 1953 Mays and both 1954 Aaron's until you look at the cards in question. The Mays and the PSA 5 Aaron are horribly centered and the PSA 4 has the nasty print line.

Better centered cards and no print line would result in higher bids. Buy the card not the holder.

Plus you have to factor in the 20% buyers premium.

The 53T Mays PSA 4 is a little low, but maybe not that low?

I mean, it sold for $2,917, including the juice.

If you look at recent PSA 4s over the last couple of years, they're not that different. There's a range, of course, and sometimes the range can get up around $5k. But plenty have been in the $3k-$3.5k range, including some from big auction houses, where often prices tend to be the frothiest.

For anyone looking for signs that the market isn't still going absolutely nuts, then it's certainly a good sign that it's not still pushing $5k.

But $2.9K is still pretty solid, especially considering they routinely sold for ~$1k pre-pandemic.

The SGC 2.5 1951 Mays was pretty solid at around 7K.

I'm trying to figure out why the N172 Silver Flint PSA 2 (Catch, Hands Chest High) went for $944 w/ buyers premium.

It's not even one of the more rare variations of Silver Flint in the set. It is a nice looking N172, though. It's not heavily washed out or darkened/stained.

Is there a good place to see all of the Clean Sweep results? I was just trying to find it on the website and was struggling to find the auction which just ended.

Way more than expected

I was watching the 1962 Jello lot of 100 or so different. It went for $7900 plus. That's way more than I expected that group to go.
Congratulations to the consigner.

I cant speak to the 1950 Mays' etc (this is a pre war forum), but I feel prices on the pre war cards I followed were mixed.

The 1923 Maple Crispette Ruth PSA 2 went for a very strong price (it is a nice looking example), as did the 1933 Goudey Cuyler PSA 5 (blew away prior records).

Meanwhile, the T206 Red Cobb Sov 460, BVG 3.5, was a total steal. Perhaps it was because the card sat in a BVG flip -- why would that card sit in that flip? But I think the winner of that card should be very happy, even if they are an Ole Miss fan.....

I also think the other t206 Cobbs went on the cheaper side, although I think prices on T206 Cobbs are weakening across all AHs. There has been so many T206 Cobbs for sale in the past year that demand appears to be down. Regarding Cobb, look for the E, D, and W issues to take off, as those already with T206 Cobbs seek to get more examples of the greatest prewar player.

All in all -- a very solid auction with lots of serious eye candy
