Worst Topps card 1952-1979

Have seen some really cool threads on best looking cards or best action shots. But what is the worst?

Out of my collection, I'll go with this one. The cap is so badly doctored I thought it was done by the guy who gave it to me, the expression says "hurry and take the damn pic," and the nearly all-black bkgd not only camouflages the cap but ends just below the team logo so cleanly that it almost presents as a miscut.

If you want ridiculous air brushed caps, it doesn't get much more ridiculous than this.

I dunno, Don, that Duffy is actually a pretty cool card. :)

No thread like this is complete without a Don Mossi card.

Stubby Clapp hands down. What is with the reflection on his face? Those eagle eyed N54'ers will of course picked up on the fact this isn't from the timeframe mentioned....but a Topps Heritage card.

Mossi

I think if I was asking Mossi to sign a card I would ask him to put the signature all within one ear

As the saying goes, these photos are so bad they're almost good. Dick Green is not only blatantly booting a grounder/throw, but his cheeks are so inflamed that it appears he's in the middle of a breath holding contest. And good ole Willie Davis is getting plunked. As marvelous as they are to me personally, were these really the best shots Topps had of these guys???

Glad someone posted the Dick Green card. Not only is it horrible due to the photo, but horribly ironic as he was a tremendous defensive player. Tough luck for a glove man to be portrayed that way.

The reverse is every bit as bad as the front.

What makes the reverse so funny is the "220" under "weight" (especially considering the 6'2" height.

I actually liked the question on the back of the card, " Which pitcher was known as The Kitten " ? Nothing like a nickname that will inspire fear into an opponent!

SAllen2556 11-02-2015 03:03 PM

I don't mind the look of the card but it's ridiculous - you'd think at least one of the three guys was actually Joe Rudi!

The 1973 Topps had some GREAT action shots, but..... when I see the photo cropping on many of them I can't help but visualize a temp hunkered over his drafting board at 11 PM on a Friday night with a half-emptied bottle of scotch and a roach sitting in the ashtray next to him. He probably got them both from the guy who designed the front layout for the 1972 set.

Come on. Best Bench card ever - the ultimate "in-action" shot. So what if you can't see his face? :)
