Favorite US coins

Without regard to value, just aesthetics. My top 5 would probably be the St. Gaudens $20, the Indian Head $10, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, the Liberty Cap Large Cent, and the Peace Dollar, but it's so hard to name just 5.

Coming from somebody who doesn't collect or know anything about coins. I've always loved the Sacagawea Dollar.

I know it's modern so probably not a very popular choice for most. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0a51f243b2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6951eb7d24.jpg

Gold is always cool.

I really like the 20 cent piece
3 cent piece (silver) tiny little buggers
Half dimes
Fugio cent

And the one I like the most are the silver trade dollars with chop marks. So freaking cool if you ask me.

With a hat tip to the inverse Indian headed gold coins. The inverse is really a neat design.

In addition to the ones Peter mentioned, I'm partial to the Seated Liberty quarter, half dollar and dollar.

Dangit Peter; this thread is making me want to go buy a Double Eagle!

I also know nothing about coins. I also like the small dollar coins like the Sacagawea and Susan B Anthony coins. My favorite is the Ben Franklin 50 cent piece.

i have very few currency...i once had a 1883 carson City silver morgan dollar
but i have numerous Sacagawea gold coins and $2 bills along with many Susan B's.
I too been looking to add a Krugerrand or something like Peter mentioned.

I put together a type set set. The 1, 2.5 and five gold were relatively easy. The 10 and 20, are out of reach now.

I am not a coin collector but WOW the details and images on some of them are really amazing

Standing Liberty Quarters
$10 Indian
$20 St. Guadens
Walking Liberty Half Dollar
$10 Draped Bust Right-Large Eagle
Interesting that the Draped Bust coins have the arrows in the right eagle talon and the olive branch of peace in the left talon.

Scan is not the greatest but here are the ones I have.

I have not picked up a Fugio Cent just yet.

The vdi numbers are for metal detecting. That is what they register on my Whites Metal Detectors.

Trivia question: What is unique about the US Trade Dollar coin verses all other US coins?

Seated Liberty, Civil War style.

butchie_t 02-04-2023 04:53 PM

Those are awesome Peter. I would love to get a Confederate run of coins. But that will simply never happen for me. I can just be happy with the Civil War tokens, those are cool too!

Would be Barber's for me. Had complete high grade raw Dime and Quarter sets at one time and nice mid-grade Half Dollar set. All long since gone. Have a few graded that I have picked up over the years.

If it was world coins and pre-war (Revolutionary) the Medieval Thaler or Dollar coins are to my liking.

Three that I used to collect: Peace Dollars, steel cents. standing liberties. All 'raw, circulated' , most through change from my purchases or friends working the till. Period of time when banks used to sell bags of loose coins was good too. All sold to fund purchases over the years.

Side Topic of Civil War 1of 4 Federal Axe Heads found on my property in Eastern North Carolina near Kinston and skirmishes nearby. The .58 Cal Minie Ball drops were found in Gettysburg while on on vacation in the late 1960's
