Atlanta braves's chris medlin, Incredible Stats!! 23 GAMES AND COUNTING!

This guy is absolutely unbelievable! Has anyone else taken notice of what this guy is doing? He hasn't lost in 29 straight starts! Last 10 starts, he has an era of 0.52! Just amazing.....

k-dog 09-20-2012 12:19 PM

He's been unreal! And to think...the organization wasn't sure if he was ready to be a starter!! :D Guess that question has been put to bed!

CMIZ5290 09-20-2012 12:22 PM

I have been a braves fan for 40 years, and i have never seen anything like this stretch (including greg maddux). 26 straight starts without a loss? Incredible.......

David W 09-20-2012 02:21 PM

According to baseball-reference he only has 28 career starts and a record of 18-8?????

http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...edlekr01.shtml

What am I missing here? How does he have this streak?

CMIZ5290 09-20-2012 04:02 PM

David- He has primarily been a reliever his whole career until recently. The only loss he has this year was out of the bullpen......

HRBAKER 09-20-2012 05:34 PM

Kris Medlen

Assuming the Braves make the playoffs under the most likely scenario and have a 1 game WC round, will Fredi start the experienced Tim Hudson for all the marbles or go with the inexperienced hot hand?

CMIZ5290 09-20-2012 06:18 PM

No doubt, got to go with medlin imo

So the streak goes back to 2009?

as far as i know, yes. He has not lost in his last 26 starts, he has either won or it was a no decision. Also, the braves have won 21 straight games that he has started.

barrysloate 09-21-2012 08:03 AM

I've been watching him too. Despite only ten decisions, he really should be in the mix for the Cy Young award. Sometimes a players stats are so far off the charts you have to bend the criteria a little.

barry- if melky cabrera can win the batting title, how can medlin not be considered for the cy young?

barrysloate 09-21-2012 02:41 PM

Melky will win the batting crown because no records have been expunged due to steroid use. Bonds still has 73 home runs in a season, so Melky's average counts.....even if you hate the fact that it does.

what i was actually talking about was a shortened season.....

As intended this disqualifies cabrera from being eligible for the title though unfortunately it also robs joey votto of the obp title.

howard- did not know that, great to hear! Cabrera wasn't worth a crap when he was with the braves.....also, fat and extremely lazy, hmmmmm...... Wonder if the pills had anything to do with his recent success??

HRBAKER 09-22-2012 09:29 AM

There is a OBP title?

novakjr 09-22-2012 10:34 AM

Howard and Kevin. Melky and his agent supposedly petitioned the league and players association for the temporary rule change for this year. They're suspending the rule, only in cases of PED suspension...The rule would still apply to all unsuspended players, although I don't really think it would matter this season.

If he had the qualifying number of AB's he would've still won it though..

It appears you are correct, from the MLB website:

PHILADELPHIA -- Manager Fredi Gonzalez has altered his rotation to line Kris Medlen up to start the one-game playoff the Braves will play if they gain entry to the postseason with one of the National League's two Wild Card entries.

CMIZ5290 10-01-2012 08:14 AM

23 straight wins, new record! Pretty impressive. Also, medlin has not lost in 29 straight starts!

And to think... he's not even the best pitcher on his own team!

Yeah, maybe but I'm not sure how tough Kimbrel would be
stretched out over 6-7!

barrysloate 10-01-2012 11:30 AM

Kimbrel is averaging nearly 17 strikeouts per nine innings, and opponents batting average is the lowest for any pitcher in the history of baseball!

Could the Braves be a dark horse to win it all this year?

barry- i remeber something very similar with your giants a couple of years ago....kimbrel gets my vote for the cy young by the way.

barrysloate 10-01-2012 11:48 AM

I know Kevin...Giants were not expected to do much of anything in 2010, and who picked the Cards to win it all in 2011? Maybe we will have another surprise champion this year (of course if the Giants happen to win again I won't complain:))

CMIZ5290 10-01-2012 11:59 AM

If any team is due it would be the braves. In all reality they should have won at least 3 or 4 world series in the chipper jones era. From a total team perspective, i believe this is as good of a team they have had including the 95 team that won it all. They need uggla to be hot in the post season though....

barrysloate 10-03-2012 02:36 PM

The Braves just finished their regular season and here is a stat regarding Craig Kimbrel:

He faced 231 batters this season and struck out 116 of them. He thus becomes the first pitcher in major league history to strike out more than half the batters he faced.

absolutely amazing....he averaged 17 strikeouts per 9 innings, and his era was a whopping 1.01. I have never been keen on giving the cy young to a reliever, but he has simply done too much not to get it. He has shattered records that have stood for 100 years....

Jlighter 10-03-2012 04:48 PM

Three blown saves, only 62.2 IP, I'm going with Dickey.

HRBAKER 10-03-2012 05:12 PM

Dickey may win it but Kimbrel was awesome!
