Are there any newspaper-based minor league issues?

The Standard Catalog has several sets that were issued as items to cut out of newspapers, but I've only seen them for Major League teams (Pirates, Twins, Tigers). Have any been found for minor league teams? I thumbed through my copy of the 2000 Standard Catalog of Minor League cards and didn't see any, which surprises me considering the popularity of the Pacific Coast League before the National League expanded to the west coast.

This is in the post war section. Where you looking for post war cards or any? The LA Examiner printed sport stamps which included PCL players:

Are those from 1936 as a number of newspapers seem to print them that season?

That's the same thing I was thinking when I saw 'em.

Jesse Hill was traded to Washington in Jan. of '36 and left after 33 games in '37 and the DiMaggio mentions him being a prize rookie that's "hitting and fielding like a veteran his first season up", which should confirm a 1936 date.

Thanks, that's the kind of thing I was looking for, I just wasn't sure whether pre-war would turn up any results. I'll dig around in some 1936 newspaper archives and see if I can turn up any more.

The 1983 - 1985 Wichita Eagle Beacon multisport set includes some players from the Wichita Aeros.

Interesting, David. Too bad Robby Alomar played there a couple of years later......

The Boston American was one of the major producers of those sports stamps in 1936. A Feller Rookie appears in there.
